One more report on Life gig

Finally got a chance to tell folks about the NY show at Life. Truthfully, I consider myself a big fan, but I was quite disappointed in the show. I've seen the Artist 4 times in the last year and I enjoyed this show the least. I should rather call the show a GCS/O+> show.

The Artist used to improvise well but lately GCS seems to have limited his variety. I'm sure that I'm wrong with my statement, but what I'm actually saying is that as long as GCS remains the same plays the same funk, and rarely changes a note the shows will remain stagnant. Larry's set although funky does not change or improvise much. In fact, I think the GCS portion of the show was longer than the Artist portion.

For the highlights, the Artist seems to be playing guitar better than ever. The first 3 tracks of the show seemed to be heavily blues influenced and were great. Purple Rain (not one of my favorites) is sounding better then ever with the extended guitar work. And Alphabet Street has a great new twist to it. However, I must say the lovesexy version was better.

Other acknowledgements, there were many porn stars at the show--I.E, Heather Hunter and friends.

As for a wish list, I think that it would have been nice for the Artist to perform "Forever in my life" under the Kennedy circumstances. For those who don't know, JFK Jr. chose this song as his first song at his wedding.

I almost forgot to mention how utterly rediculous the wait for the show was. I has not been stated, but many people left the show before it started because it began at 3:15. People were let into the club at 10 and expected a show at 11. I thought possibly 1 a.m. because I've been to a few of these shows. Additionally, many people left while the show was going on. Personally, this must have been the worst aftershow I've been to of his. Of course, there were the few stellar moments that reminded me of why I like the Artist.

Furthermore, I thought it might have been in good taste to give the crowd a sampler of "Rave" seeing that everyone waited so long. No such luck!
