Hollywood Report #1

Funk in Hollywood was deep last night. After what looked like tragic mess outside the Palladium, all turned out well. The premium club members were in one line and regular fans were in another. These fans had their tickets ahead of time because many went to ticketmaster outlets or the box office and bought them the day of the show. All of us premiums were getting nervous because it looked as if they were going to let everyone run for the stage at once and we were going to be stuck at the will call window. They did end up letting us come in and get tickets but then tried to make us go back out on the street and line up again. We told security to kiss our asses and Billy Sparks appeared out of nowhere talking shit and seemed to actually rectify the situation. The Palladium is a old funky Hollywood joint that was cool back in the day but not the best for a gig of this magnitude.

The merchandise maggots were selling all the same stuff but only accepted cash. I asked who was walking around with $1,000 cash for one of those guitars. I bet Prince didn't even have that kind of loot on him tonight!

Billy Sparks made an announcement outside that Prince was late coming from the Tonight Show and the show would start at 10pm. He also said that there would be no aftershow.

We could tell from the stage setup that there would be no opening acts. The chick group is good to look at as backup singers but not much else so they were not missed. I dont think anyone was writing home about those Fonky Baldheads either so Prince was straight on with no delay.

The show was the same as San Diego. I was thinking that I forgot to set my VCR to tape Jay Leno (CAn someone help me get a copy of the Friday night appearance? - I can make it worth your while). I noticed that Prince doesnt do splits anymore. Even on "The Work" which calls fora James Brown split if any song did. I was surprised at how well received it was. People seemed to know and like it. It was more Najee than I needed as Prince relies on the band more and more to fill space. A little more Rhonda would be nice. And more John Blackwell as well! Prince guitar work was on point as usual. IT made me contemplate how many times could I or would I see Prince play "Purple Rain" live. As the fat, sweaty chick next to me kept bumping mr with her huge booty and the guy in front of me was sweating out her jheri curl in my face, my feet began to swell from standing for 7 straight hours and the dull ache in my lower back and moved arounf to my groin. I thought to my self, I am getting too old for the hardcore fan groupie crap...then NPG cranked up "Come ON" and Geneva's fantastic buttocks washed away the pain. I made it to the end as I watched Prince lay the symbol guitar on the stage with this loud vibration white noise coming from it to close a hard-hitting rendition of "Gett Off" and what had to be the funkiest night Hollywood has seen in a long time. Why?

...cause FACE said so!!!
