Hollywood Report #3

I actually made it to a Prince performance for a change...lol
I won't bore you with all the pre-concert babble about what I wore or the type of toothpaste I used, but will just say that I stood outside the Palladium for 3 hours...it was announced that the taping of The Tonight Show delayed Prince and the band so we'd be standing even longer...some guy kept goin' up and down the line yellin' "Who needs an extra ticket, dammit??!!"(Almost took him up on his offer just for the "dammit" part alone)...and I wasn't allowed to buy copies of the CD singles until after the show...

That said, DAMN that was a great show!!!...I can't imagine leaving that performance and saying "Eh, it was good", unless you're one of those fans who goes to 62 shows a year and has now become desensitized to Prince's talents and to the energy and power of him and his band live...I've been to 2 shows before this one, so luckily I can still go see Prince and marvel at how great he is live...just amazing shit.

Won't go into the set list, it seemed to be pretty much what all the other ones were...Housequake was ferocious, though...and Blackwell on drums, holy !@$#$!....the man looked like an octopus on crack, his arms were flyin' all over the place...his drumming assaulted my eardrums into oblivion, and I loved it..The Work was VERY good(although he featured Najee way too much during it), and the crowd definitely seemed to get into it--he didn't push it nearly as much as I would have liked though...still, it pumped, and it "worked"(sorry, can't come up with a better pun right now...lol) UMMSS was tight and sexy, too...he extended that into this gospel/blues/seduction number that made the original recorded version now pale deeply in comparison...
The rest were truncated versions of hits, although I gotta admit I enjoyed the hell out of them regardless of whether or not I got the complete song..."Dorothy Parker" was as everyone else already described--that is, great!...and "Gett Off" was just HOT beyond belief....his guitar at the end of that song was powerful and phenomenal...
Great show from a fantastic performer...complaints that the show is heavy on the hits is irrelevant, at least to those of us not living on a steady diet of Prince concerts...lol. And with the woman in front of me grinding her ass into my crotch as she danced and the woman behind me constantly draping her hands and arms over my shoulders as she'd sing the lyrics into my ear, it almost felt like I was in a threesome...lol(that alone was worth the price of admission...heh) Great show...can't say anything more(but probably will once my ears recover)..
