Made some minor tweaks to the news. The upside is that hopefully things will be a little faster... (crossing fingers!)

UPDATE

I also added back in the "number of comments" display next to items. It won't be immediately updated for already-existing items, though... but new items it should be working for. I know lots of folks were upset when I got rid of that!
