Cool little interview. And it's nice to hear him saying he will not retire soon. Peforming is his job smile Wish there was more of that to see in this clip...

And I like his look. He's handsome!

What a nice interview. I wish American Journalist were as liad back and non-prying as that. The aggressive journal styles we have in The States sometimes drive artist away.

It's funny after all these years, he's still shy, quiet and hesitant in front of the camera. It adds a realism to him you know. You can tell he's not fake, very genuine and as Maceo said Genius!

Oh and by the way, ya'll see Rhonda! Ooh she's a beautiful creature! Sometimes it seems as if she's hiding behind her hair and those shades. Well she is a Bass player.

Nice interview. Obviously Prince thinks very well, even as he speaks. I admire him calling the shots for the cameras to be turned off for a while. And what did he do, he talked off camera. His band no doubt supports what they do, and have input. I thought it was enlightening to know Prince doesn't read music, but as Maceo said, "GENIOUS". Nice interview. Thanks for sharing. thumbs up!

That was awsome! Thanks so much for posting this. It's great to see an interview with him. It tells me so much about his personality, I like how he fake cried when Maceo was calling him a genius he has such a great sense of humor.

Thanks for posting the interview. I doubt he cannot read music ... yeah I know he did say it himself - still I find it pretty weird as he is music - he loves music - he is interested in music - he breathes music - it's rather weird he cannot read. Wouldn't he be playint a role on this? is he teasing the audience? feeding the character?

Don't know ...

I agree that he probably CAN read music...I'm sure he picked it up over the years. Maybe he can't read it quickly and just play what he reads in "real-time", but I'm sure he understands it and can translate it pretty easily by now.

A friend of mine a few years back gave me the opportunity 2 meet Paul McCartney. I asked him if he reads music... he replied "Nope, never learnt to. It's just instinctive"

yeah, but paul mccartney never said he's obssessed with music. I don't think he really is I may be wrong.

In Prince case, it's hard for me to believe it even if he's telling me so through a tv interview 'cause of his curiosity and willing to learn about it at any scales.

Don't know really ... it's such a contradiction and he is so ironic sometimes...

Thanks sooo much for sharing that clip! He seemed a little uncomfortable at times, but he still kept things cool.

He looks great by the way! He is so talented to have good ears. I know because I've played violin for so long, so I know kinda what Prince means. I can easily hear something if it's out of tune, whether or not it's major or minor etc.

Thanks again!! ^_^

SoulAngel

I was so so glad to see that Prince had not lost his 'say very little but speak volumes' approach to idiotic recycled questions.

He had a total boyish innocence to him still that he possessed in his more vocal interviews 20 years ago. Richard is a tossa. He blew his chance at making that time he spent with Mr Nelson some of the most exhilerating and memorable moments of his life.

Prince, as always, held himself with grace and dignity politely not feeding into Richards lame attempts to dig up the past and gave, as always, short succint answers, stating the obvious, as he always does, that he will just "let the music speak for him"...all we have to do is not only open up our ears but our soul and we would feel a whole lot more of what Prince in trying to say. Basically, that he is a vessel which provides the message...thats all, its so simple, im dissappointed that Nine chose someone so detached from his inner to speak with the man...however, grateful for the reminder that Prince Nelson sees himself as no more a man/woman or child than the rest of us.

what's up with the breakdown when Maceo called him a genius? maybe he is still not over his parents' deaths.

So funny how these interviews still go along the same lines as the original Dick Clark interview - cryptic, evasive, refusal to answer questions that don't stick to some tight agenda.

Although he seemed a little more straight forward when he ditched the band in the second half.

So do we refer to him as "Music" now?smile

There's a difference b/w knowing what notes and chords you're playing and being able to read them of a piece of paper. It's quite possible that he could record something, then give it someone else to notate (ie, for other musicians). That's what George Martin did for Paul McCartney ...and he was pretty damn prolific in the '60's

Well, thanks for posting the interview.

But, as usual Prince just comes off so unnatural in front of the camera. He's too deep with that same old crap he said in his last interview and the one before that, however long ago. I don't know, maybe he's gotten a little better, but I'm still disappointed. And a control freak to the 10th power.

Good thing he mostly lets the music speak for him.

What a strange duck, but I still love him.
