8th Oakland Review (longer)

Most have read Alan's detailed review of yesterday's wonderful experiences,
so I'd like to add some of my own highlights and obvervations:

Stran-jay Award to the PreMems for such good behavior during the sound
check. Nobody bumrushed Prince!! I think most of us were still in shock no
one 'SIKE!' at the gate, lol. R brother, Gary, came to the show with us for
the very first time and thought soundcheck meant something else. Walking
past a limo he said "what does soundcheck mean?" and we said 'We're goin to
watch Prince rehearse'...his jaw hit the floor.

Ultimate cool points to P for hangin out and talking to us and making every
effort to make the NPGMC be the best it possibly can be. Prince's staff was
very polite and got us 2 r seats with no problem. Prince joking with us
was a rare treat!

...And I'm sure Brandon, the FunkFreak will never 4get Prince sayin he could
jam with the band.

Also for the heads up that a Celebration will take place....WHOO HOO! I'm so
looking 4ward to that!

Personal high was being able to give something back to someone who's given
me so much. I'd have like 2 have given it 2 u myself however, I can
understand ur hesitance. But never fear, Lovely Prince i wouldn't harm a
hair on your beautiful (fill in the blank). just kidding.

I hope you enjoy the Degas, Prince, my favorite is L'etoile (the Star).

Millenia sing beautifully! Call me sick but Prince woulda shocked it if he
had called them the White Girls! They blended really well with Rosie and to
hear them all during Ain't No Way was like church a day early!

I'm enjoying Prince trying out different sounds for Purple Rain...and these
variations just keep getting better! I thought that PR would not ever sound
as good live as the aftershow for Las Vegas, but the gurnge version played
during soundcheck was AWESOME!...it took a second to realize what it was but
when i did i grabbed my sister and said "that's PR!!' OUTSTANDING!!

Joy in Repetition had orgasmic effects on more than one person there! (and
we'll just leave it at that ;>)

The whole soundcheck went off without a hitch and when it was over Gary said
"i wanna thank u for whatever u did to make that happen" all it took the
NPGMC....PreMembership has its' privileges!

the John/Sheila/Prince drum scene was PRICELESS!...hearing Paisly Park live
was doubly special because ATWIAD was the pre-concert hype-me-up
CD...unfortunately I was not close enough to P for him hear me sing along
every word.

I also loved the fact that songs that were released within the last month
were in the setlist. U cain't get the funk no fresher than that!

Havin Funk Master Larry Graham reiterate the reign of his thumb was great.
His skill is surpassed only by his graciousness.

I feel at this point that my dues 4 the NPGMC have paid off and am giddy at
the thought of what the rest of the year will bring.

Still in the Purple Haze,

Adore P. Funk
(now more than ever!!)
