7th San Diego report

I only have one complaint about the show and that is that it had to end. He only played two and one half hours! It seemed that no one wanted to leave. Prince kept saying good night but everyone kept yelling for more, and he did not disappoint. He did 3 encores! Each one funkier than the last. It was a full house and the noise level was beyond belief. A couple of girls seated behind me must have blown out their vocal cords from all the yelling and screaming they were doing. The first half of the show was funky but also very soulful in part thanks to Najee, and during the second half of the show THE MAN turned it loose. I was amazed at how beautiful some of his songs sound live. Songs like "Nothing Compares 2 U, Housequake, and Darling Nikki" seemed to take on a life of their own. Words are not enough to describe what he did to the crowd that night. He made us dance, sing, laugh, think and reflect. How many other artists can you name that have that effect on their fans during a live show? Some of them can't even do it on their albums(think of all of the insipid boy and girl bands flooding the airwaves today)let alone live. Prince showed us how it should be done. This concert was not just a show, it was an experience, an incredible experience. Thank you Prince for making it a beautiful night.
