4th San Diego report

[Apparently some folks go to pay as much attention to the audience as the show... -Ben]

Here is a new percpective on tha San Diego Show. I will despense with the "how great Prince was routine" because that has been well established. Prince has never done a bad show that anyone has seen.

I am a premium NPG music club member who, for whatever reasons, was one of the many that didn't get the password for the pre-sale for this gig. So I took my chances the day following the pre sale with the general sale and I managed to get one seat on the 4th row in the VIP section! I thought to myself: shouldn't this seat have been bought in the pre-sale? Where are all the pre-sale ticket holders if I managed to get 4th row after the pre sale? The woman sitting next to me bought her ticket the day of the show!

I was lured to the merchandise stands because I spoke with Ki Ki at DJ Music Emporium in Mpls and she told me that they would have several CD singles there. Sure enough, I got the Daisy Chain single with a unreleased song, the Peace single and with 2045 Radial Man, and the Supercute single with Underneath the Cream. Some of these cuts were offered up as premium mp3 cuts on the music club and here they were for a mere $5 to any slob with a concert ticket. Then there was the little white guitar from Purple Rain that was going for $1,000. I almost got it and I regret that I didn't. This is something that should at least be offered through the website (by the way, if someone picks it up, I will buy it off them).

As I sat down, I noticed the growing number of aging, grossly overweight, trashy-looking women that came in small, man-less groups to see Prince. This is a phenomenon that I have noticed over the last few years of Prince gigs. Bare midrifts of tattooed rolls of stretch-marked flab bulging from under polyester sequinned halter tops nearly grossed me out as I was surrounded with them! Thank God for perfect feminine specimen like Geneva who came out prior to the show and chatted with the secutrity guards. She looked fabulous in just some funky heels and a pair of perfectly fitted jeans. There were a fair share of hard bodies to counter the rest.

The afterparty was announced but I didn't know where the club was even though I wanted to go in case Prince played. I noticed that he did the entire show without ONE of his trademark James Brown splits! I thought that he might have benn tired and skip the aftershow so I didn't try to find it. I remember how sad it was when I saw James Brown right after he hit the age where his legs just could pop him back up after a split and he would grab the mic stand to pull himself up. I didnt want to see the happen to Prince. I don't think it has.

Well, I hope they print this. You won't see another report like this one!

...cause FACE said so!!!
