Great clip. Chances are Prince has found out that one of his musical heroes can't read a word of sheetmusic so he's sworn of it for a while, nothing more. Or maybe sheetmusic, like Christmas and blood transfusions, don't go down with the JWs.

That was such a great interview.
I'm telling you, the reviews have been amazing for this show. He simply tore Australia up. "I have a date with Lisa. Isn't that wonderful?"

Really cool interview. I do believe that he doesn't read music. He has a good ear and knows what notes are being played but doesn't read notes on paper. Seems the shows are getting great reviews in Australia.
He's looking very sexy. The hair is looking much better in the interview and I love seeing him with glasses on. A total cutie!! [This message was edited Tue Oct 28 2:55:31 PST 2003 by LolaM] I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

u dont have 2 be able to read music to play cool music. its nearly better if u cant. that way ure playing whats in the heart/soul and ure not limited to copying whats in front of u. i am absolutely 100% certain that prince cannot read music. all he does is practise a great deal. beacuase he loves, lives and breathes music, he plays it all the time, he can easily jam, improvise and groove without having to constrict himself 2 sheet music. thats why he loves jamming so much because he still feels he can learn. thats why he pulls those faces on stage - he is loving every minute of playing. thats why he surrounds himself with multitalented musicians so they can feed his musical desires. reading music does not mean that u dont know what key a song is in, it just means that u pick everything up by ear. john lennon was once asked did he ever get piano lessons, he said he didint because then he would always copying someone else and doing stuff that had already been done. he wanted to learn by trial and error. as can be applicable to prince, the greatset living musician of them all, if u have it, u have it.

- There is no formula about it. There are some musicians who read music and are amazing and others who don´t and still are amazing. Jeff Beck and Paco de Lucia don´t read music, but their work is great. On the other hand, I am almost sure Zappa, Miles Davis and John Mac Laughlin know/knew how to read and they are music forces. It wasnt a surprise for me that Prince doesnt read music. He seems to be the kind of guy that learned all he knows simply by listening to music and trying to play it. He practiced a lot. With all his talent, he developed amazing musicianship.

It's funny after all these years, he's still shy, quiet and hesitant in front of the camera. It adds a realism to him you know. You can tell he's not fake, very genuine and as Maceo said Genius! Oh and by the way, ya'll see Rhonda! Ooh she's a beautiful creature! Sometimes it seems as if she's hiding behind her hair and those shades. Well she is a Bass player. Blue "Come on out here Rhonda" Hey! Where have U been, you sweetie!? So nice to see U. So...how's everybody doing?

On the other hand, there's A LOT of good that can be accomplished by knowing how to read and write sheet music. It's not constrictive anymore than writing your words is constrictive -- you have a thought, you put it down on paper. In addition, there's so much you can do with the mathematics of music -- being able to read and write sheet music can open up some of those doors as well, in addition to improvisational techniques. Peace.

pleeease... Even if a musician does not read music, they will always know the chords and the notes like these. Think of people who can't read English... They may still talk really fluently and know all the words, even if they wouldn't recognise them written down!

We're not asking him to read anybody's music; I think what we're saying is if you're able to "read" music, you can also write it and play with the mathematics of it; thus, opening even more doors of creativity for an already very powerful songwriter-musician.
