2nd report from San Diego Hit n Run Still feelin the cool vibes from last nite @ cox arena S.D.
This is the 2nd time I've seen Prince in S.D. (but around the 20th altogether). I was near the back this show, but I have had the front row, club scene & MPLS experience all before - so this was new in THAT way for me. To be honest, Millenium didn't ring my bells, but the Fonky Baldheads WERE pretty FONKY. This was a stripped down stage, no props except a comfy chair for Prince to chill in once in awhile. The lights were excellent as usual. The man was in a good mood & voice & was VERY warm & responsive to the excited & energized S.D. crowd. Full house by the way (remember L.A. had to come here or travel to O'land to see him this time round). Last time he booked this venue, he cancelled due to poor sales. He made mention of the 2 recent school shooting here & the need for Dads to be in the home. I believe there were 3 encores (more than I remember 2 any other show I've attended)!!! It was worth the wait. The longer the show went, the harder it rocked & the funkier it blew. Some memorable numbers for me were, Darling Nikki, a jazzy version of Kiss, Gett Off, Housequake, Dorothy Parker, etc..... Geneva added her part (parts?) Najee - sexy/smooth - good enuff to eat! Great energy - lots of fun. S.D. you made a positive impression. Can't wait till next time. | |
