1st report from Salt Lake City Hit n Run and aftershow (wednesday)

What can I say, Prince is the man. Not only does he put on a great show, but his muscian ship blows me away. This was my first Prince show and now I will see him any time anywhere.

The show started off woth Millenia, then proceeded with The Fonky Bald Heads, then it was show time. Prince dove right into Controversy and into a medly of Little Red Corvette and Cream. Maceo Parker was featured through out the night. Prince sat back a few times through out the night to let Maceo take the stage, Prince was diggin Maceo's playing.

Prince did his usual and bring a bunch of people on stage to dance. The encore was Rasberry Beret, Diamonds and pearls, I would die 4 u, and Purple Rain. Finally he ended with Kiss.

Prince was digging the Salt Lake Crowd, through out the night he would say "Salt Lake you love me." "Salt Lake your too loud." And cover his ears.

After the show it was on to Bricks for the after show party. As we walked into the club the first we noticed was the stage set up with full band set up, a sure indicator of things to come. At about 1:00AM the Fonky Bald Heads got on stage and rocked the place with about 5 songs. Then Millenia took to the stage and gave us one song then introduced Prince.

Prince came out with his bass straped on and started laying down the grooves. It was mostly improve stuff, he would turn around to the band and shout what key to play in. Prince would ad lib lyrics "Salt Lake knows how to party!" was the best one that he kept repeating through out most of the songs.

The best is he started asking people in the crowd (150 people total) what was there names were and then make up a song about that name, he asked one guy who's name was Cummings and Prince said "I ain't touching that one." Prince asked the crowd "do you want to stay up and party all night? "Cause I do" he said.

At about 2:30 the police made them stop, unfortunatly this is still Salt Lake City. Prince played for about five more minutes and then left the stage.

Thanks Prince for that special treat it felt so intimate. Props to Maceo Parker.
