2nd report from Atlanta Hit n Run (Saturday)

Just got home from Prince's Atlanta performance. I'm typing this all as I remember it, so it maybe kinda scattered.

This was my third hit n run show, but not the best. He seem to take his time on most of the songs. The concert was about 2 hours long. He did the normal set list thats been posted here for each show. Some different tunes include 'The Work' and 'U Make My Sun Shine.' Angie Stone's part was handled by the girl group Millenia. There wasn't really an encore like in the other shows, but then again, it was after 1 am, i'm sure not everybody wanted to stay all night like me. I kinda missed the part where he brings on the regular folks and does 'Come On' or 'Kiss.' I noticed a bunch of people sitting down at different points in the show, which blows my mind.. How can you sit at a Prince show?

He gave shout-outs to Chuck D and T-Boz from TLC who were both in the audience. He even poked fun at TLC's financial situation: "I don't sell as many records as TLC, but I take home more of my paycheck... Ya'll shouldn't have done that Behind the Music, what yall expect me to do?" That was cooold! Another funny moment was when this woman climbed up on stage and started dancing with a rose in her mouth while he was playing piano. I guess Prince thought she was dancing too dirty, so he stopped what he was doing and dragged her off the stage. She wasn't exactly Geneva... to say the least...

Later on, he took out some spray paint and painted the word, 'Free' on Blackwell's Bass Drum. I didn't even know it was for sale. smile

Speaking of selling instruments, at the merchandise stand two cloud guitars were for sale. I didn't even ask the price on them. They were also selling the Peace and Daisy Chain CD singles. Everything else was run-of-the-mill warez they had last time. There was also a guy set up with laptops pimping the music club. Twice during the concert Prince mentioned it.

Another new thing, he had two opening acts. The first was the group Millenia. They were um... bad. They shoulda been called Destiny's Red-headed step Child. Between their songs people were yelling for them to get off the stage. If only they had listened...

Then came the Funky Baldheads. I expected them to suck worse than fourth generation copy of a Tony M solo record, but they surprised me. They rocked... I mean they didn't just did well... they *rocked!* The Two guitars and the bass sounded great. Kip tore it up on vocals. I could done without Eminem-wannabe DVS and his rapping about breaking up with his girlfriend. puh-leeze. They did Anotherloverholenyohead, and it lived up to the crowd's expectations. They also did and instrumental "I'm Yours," which also worked well. At one point during their set, Prince came out and played piano for one song.

After the show they didn't announce an aftershow, but I figure the sunday night show would kinda be the aftershow, except its in the same place and its umm 24 hours after the show. OH well, that review will come tomorrow night!
