Many artists take a different direction with their music and as a fan you either like it or you don't. I do like a lot of what Prince did since Diamonds & Pearls. But it depends on what you look for in his music. If you only look for innovation, the eighties will be the one and only Prince-period for you. Personally, I would prefer the 1994/1995 period as my favourite, if someone forced me to choose.

Why? Because I offer a viewpoint that doesn't suit you? You cannot accept diversity of opinion and taste?
But that's the way life is - everyone's a critic and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank goodness. biggrin

the review:

Sheesh, whatever happened to "Rasberry Beret", man?

That should have been the name of the article.

We've all got selective memories when it comes to this particular pop genius, and mine stops at about 1990.

That's why he thinks he can speak for other Prince fans not knowing any albums beyond Graffiti Bridge.

What do you mean, "his good stuff"? All of Prince's music will forever stand the test of time. (taste test) Hmmm, you seem a little bland. Let's add three tablespoons of "Cream"

And your opinion is noted. My opinion is that Prince has made some good songs and some not so good songs, Cream being one of those I think are not so good ones.
Although I do not exactly agree with everything the reviewer in question states, he is entitled to his opinion and you to yours. There is no right opinion or wrong opinion, just different tastes.
To me, "all of Prince's music will forever stand the test of time" sounds a little... Well, blindly devoted. biggrin

And what's with this resorting to personal attacks on people who doesn't agree with others' opinions? "You seem a little bland"? That is so immature.

For someone with just four posts to his credit you sure are starting out with quite the attitude. biggrin

Hey, I made one simple comment as my first post that got your attention, so you decided to add your opinion. I don't want you to think I'm attacking you personally because I'm not. Well I don't mean to come across that way. I'm just having fun and I really do find your opinions and expressions intriguing. We're all entitled to our opinions concerning the purple genius, I just happen to give a little "Madfunk" with mine. Peace and April Snows.

hi ...
i love you prince...u helped raise me...i play music 4 a living.. and i often fight and argue with my musician friends about u and your music...they all agree hands down that u are a badass mutha...
but they all hate your stuff...its the content...i dont think its even really possible to assume you can start with the..."hey im the king of all short, abused, free thinking artist of the world"...and me and my mpls crew of outcast are gonna change the world and make everyone think uptowns the place 2 be...then...turn around and say...its all about the $ and fuck my fans and what i represent 2 them now its all about being #1 at the bank...then...i was wrong...psycho hyper intense strict grandparenty religious musics all that matters...
and expect to have people remain faithful for 25 years...its been a long journey but...even i a diehard that respects the shit out of prince (1978-1992)...just could'nt care less anymore ...god bless u you will always be funky...somehow i would've prefered if u opened a school for young artist to learn music or something..in like 1994 oh well...good day ya'll.

That's funny. Just because the music is different in style (i.e., not commercialized pop, but innovative unique jazz-funk) it is suddenly crap. This guy wouldn't know good music if it slapped him in his *&^. News is not a commercial album. Musically, I think it is some of the best stuff I've heard. And to disrespect Rainbow Children just because he's not singing about sex for once, shows just how ignorant he is. The music on Rainbow Children is incredible. No it's not 50 cent or Madonna sound-a-like, but that is what makes Prince Prince. Other people will be doing this in about 10 years... and then it will be commercial style and the critics will love it. So sad to see such closed minds.

Gee, I must say this guy really reflects what most people think about Prince. Whatever you say about his new music - it certainly has lost its "light" touch, so that you instantly get hooked. Nowadays, you have to "work" to enjoy the records, and have a positve attitude towards the man. Back in the days, you could be totally negative, and still had to admit that the stuff was new, fresh, funky, groovy, and full of hooks - and everytime there were compositions were you just instantly could sum along.

Nowadays, you have to sit down, listen to the records many times, until you find something. Man, now its ART...

- I agree with the first paragraph. In the 80s, nobody could ever say his music wasnt fresh. But as for ´listening to records many times´...I had to do it then too. Most of Prince songs had to grow on me, including 80s stuff
