Prince a sell out !

Prince tickets for went on sale this morning across Australia with Melbourne in particular leading the pack for sales, selling out in under an hour.

This is the start of the world tour where Prince has announced he will be performing his hits for the last time.

The record sales for Melbourne lead to a second show going on sale immediately. Prince will perform two nights in Melbourne, October 21 and 22. They will be the first two shows for this tour on the planet.

His label NPG describes the upcoming show as "one long dance party with no gimmicks, no pre-recorded music and no prisoners taken."

PRINCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES:
October 21 & 22 - Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne
October 24 - Sydney Entertainment Centre - Sydney
October 27 - Brisbane Entertainment Centre - Brisbane

Frosty
I just can't believe all the things people say !

This is great news! For fans in OZ and for Prince and his tour, gives it momentum and attention! Selling out stadiums with NO hit record...in years!

But something slightly troubles me.

What's this whole "Prince has announced he will be performing his hits for the last time."

The last time?

Which hits? Purple Rain and Little Red Corvette? The big hits?

And why the last time? Purple Rain isn't nasty?

I always felt the 2000 Hit And Run tour was actually the last time he was maybe allowed to play his hits. He did Darling Nikki even! I thought maybe that was the last time you'd get the nasty Prince or something.

And after this tour...what will he play after? Just Jazz? Non-Madhouse like Jazz?

Hmmm.

This stuff about the last time he'll perform his hits is for the mainstream Australian to get them to get off their arses and go to the show.

Could you imagine the ticket sales if the promo was "come watch Prince sing the hits of his latest cd!" or "Prince - the raimbow children tour".

Ask your friends in oz if they remember Prince's last song/cd. I had one girl at work in her mid 30's come up to me say, "I saw Gold in the record store the other day, is that like his latest cd?". I kid you not.

Every recent tour has also been described by Prince's camp as being "no gimmicks". To me, I read it as "stage is going to be bare, Xpect no frills or anything that costs us Xtra money".
I miss the elaborate tours. I know the music is the most important thing but I don't recall the SOTT tour suffering from any musical malnourishment!

I agree that a fantastic show like Sign or Lovesexy tours would be great, but I think this is a response to all the over the top live shows by pop artists and the mainstream music arena.

Maybe later he'll do something similar.

people don't appreciate Real Music from a Real Music Lover...

it'LL b VERY suprising if P sells out here in the States (i pray he does, when & if he comes)...

I think only a Revolution reunion tour or something like that, then Prince can sell out stadiums in the US. Maybe even a Lovesexy band thing again...but that's doubtful.

You are definately right. But to me, it's not really about missing the "full scale" tours of the past.

I just hate it when "the camp" constantly tries to take us for idiots.
I appreciate it a lot if Prince is going on tour but I simply cannot hear this "the hits for the last time" or "just Prince no gimmicks" shit any longer. It's all about money. Strange but true. "The hits for the last time" intends to decoy non-harcore fans and "no gimmicks" tries to keep costs low in order to maximize yields.

More or less, everything Prince has done in the last 12 or 24 months is more or less regarding money. The market prices of his output get higher and higher (ticket prices) and the quality of his output gets lower and lower (cheap DVD, NPGMC, quickly produced instrumental CDs, no-gimmicks-tours).

If you ask me. That guy is either greedy or extremely tight on money.

Its been 10 long starved years since P toured Oz, and although it pains me to say, I cant find it in me to fall for the "last time, no gimmicks tour". Im feeling (after following the artist for over 20 years) that he has lost his way and allowed himself to disassociate himself from the commoners and is prepared to leave us with a less than memorable recount of his life and his music in this last tour. Im thinking I could park outside the stadium and get as much out of the concert sitting on the warm balmy steps in Brisbane as I would sitting centre front.
