Prince places 2 songs on the 365-song list of the RIAA best 20th century American songs. This was on the CNN website.



The songs were "1999" and "Purple Rain" Cool accomplishment for the Purple Man

The RIAA and the National Endowment for the Arts have taken it upon themselves to select and announce the top 365 song songs of the century. Prince made the list with 1999 and Purple Rain. National Endowment for the Arts along with the RIAA, announced yesterday the songs of the century at the Library of Congress. (Ironically, Prince is now asking us to petition the RIAA on his behalf).

As you can see, Prince has two songs on the 80s section of this list. He is the ONLY artist on the 80s portion of the list to have two songs listed. Madonna only has one song on the entire list(MJ has two songs on the entire list also, "Beat It" and from the 70s list "I Want You Back".)
