Criptic Post from the NPGMC Found this rather odd message in the News Section of the NPGMC website:
"Xcerpt from the 4thcoming: "Modern technology has given us the means 2 produce an endless supply of nearly perfect copies of an original. But it cannot reproduce INSPIRATION — and neither can it produce perfect copies of the sensations u felt in ur body, mind and soul the last time u found urself in tune with a work of art that u were xperiencing. This is something u need 2 constantly work on, and u also need 2 learn 2 accept the fact that such sensations r never twice the same." -NPGMC 2003" Does any orger have a clue? Thanks There are no kings on this Earth, only Princes

Right, but following this logic to the end, there should be no recorded music at all, as all records surely are "copies" of the music performed live.
And - gotta say - my copy of SOTT still let's me feel the inspiration in the record... And - you don't need to constantly work on finding yourself in tune with a work of art - either the work of art hits you or not, but it is not the other way around.

yeah, it's his lame excuse about the poor quality of the ona dvd.
it must be embarrassing for him knowing that that dvd is one of the worst quality dvds of all time in regards to the quality of the video... actually "quality" and "ona dvd" should never again be used in the same sentence. and for you sheep out there who are about to waste your keystrokes typing "i don't see what's so bad! it's better than nothing!", try buying a few more dvds first. out of my 912 dvds, this is easily the worst looking one. prince AND universal should be ashamed for releasing it...

Having read the World Tour news, is this a cryptic message about the upcoming tour? Is he gonna perform "the hits" for the last time? (sensations are never twice the same) ie playing the same tunes at concerts over and over, loses the sensation, the inspiration. Sensations felt through your body - you get more of that in concert than from a recording - even with SOTT! And technology capable of making perfect copies - are we gonna get concert by concert releases through NPGMC that we all say we want?
Whatever it is, there'll be comments made, rumours passed etc as there usually is. Until we find out more, it passes the time! We ain't from Hollywood, so you know it's all good

as for prince putting money in his pocket? i'm not upset at that. i don't think anyone is. we're all here to support him... it's just some of us are capable of supporting while being able to be critical of such glaring poor decisions as this one... it's unfortunate too, because with prince cutting out all of the swearing and lewdness at this stage of his career, the dvd could be being played as a reference disc across the country... but you will not see the ONA dvd being played *anywhere* because only an imbecile would play this to show off the quality of hdtv... hell... you won't even see this being played on $149 televisions at wal-mart, that's how poor the quality is. well at least the sound quality is reference. gotta love that dolby digital 5.1 and dts... oh wait. no it's not. it's no better sounding than the ONA 3cd set. eventually prince will learn. then again, it's all about the money for him, or else he wouldn't have allowed "purple rain" to have been released on dvd the way it was... kind of makes you wonder about the "bootleg" dvd of "sign o' the times" that's being sold everywhere... It sounds (to me) like he's finally re-recorded his old stuff, and is going to re-release the material. Moreover, it sounds like some of the new material may have a uniquely different flavor than the originals. Say, instead of Wendy and Lisa backing him up, we have have Rosie Gains. Instead of SHeena Easton signing "U got the Look", it may be Larry Graham. Perhaps he'll even turn Jughead (From Diamonds N Pearls) into a sprawling 15 minute epic adventure we have to live through again. Who knows. At leaste when I get news from PRince.org it means something. NPMC is just a place I order songs from--and lately, it's been slim pickins.

I think this means he has re-recorded Purple Rain and or a collection of hits and has plans to release it. But I do my best to translate.
"Modern technology has given us the means 2 produce an endless supply of nearly perfect copies of an original" Translation:I sampled a bunch of tracks, it was just easier to do so. "But it cannot reproduce INSPIRATION — and neither can it produce perfect copies of the sensations u felt in ur body, mind and soul the last time u found urself in tune with a work of art that u were xperiencing" Translation: You're not 16 anymore so at this enlighten age you're going to compare this rerecording to the original and bitch and moan that it's not as good. "This is something u need 2 constantly work on, and u also need 2 learn 2 accept the fact that such sensations r never twice the same." Translation: I can never give you that Cherry Moon high again, get over it! Anyway that's my take. X Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

READ THIS PASSAGE VERY CAREFULLY! It will certainly answer any questions:
Inspiration is an internal phenomenon - it's something that happens inside a person. Though people will, and have, argued that there are external things that can "make" you feel a certain way, this is not so. Nothing external can "make" you a person do, say or feel anything. (A good example of this is that no one can make an alcoholic stay clean.) The song can be there, but it takes the person to get inspired behind it, and one person gets inspiration in a different way than another. Case in point: Take the song Purple Rain - there is nothing in and of the song itself that makes me feel inspired (there is no innate value or force contained in this song. At first, I really didn't like the song. Then, one day, I was listening to the coda on a little radio, and boom! it happened. The only difference was that I wasn't inspired by the song until that moment. How this happened was that I had to let the song get inside my listening, otherwise I would still dislike this song. The song was there, and it took me getting inspired by the song before it had any effect. I know that some of you will disagree with me, and such disagreement will only go to prove the point. In just the same way, it's so that this is my perspective, I can't make you see things my way. I would also speculate that this is a main reason why Prince was so pro-organic music for a time.

Just because everyone says this doesn't mean it's true, and I've not yet seen the dvd. Agreement that it's poor quality doesn't make it true - that's not a reality-based test.

I agree! The first thoughts I had were of the Sign o the Times movie. It had that same look and feeling which I think a lot of people jsut didn't get. Anyway it worked for me and my 13 bucks. aw laura, what does my having a life or not have to do with your hero releasing dvd with the worst video quality of all time?
when the people that say there's nothing wrong with the video get an actual dvd player and watch it on their television rather than on a computer screen, only then will i actually listen to what they have to say... and that's only if they don't have a purple tongue. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY 9/12/03 (NPG/Hip-O) It seems "Money Don't Matter 2 Night" when it comes to paying for a pro filming job: Live looks like it was shot by fans who snuck Super-8s into the Aladdin and had their tapes confiscated. But the music nearly makes the visual shoddiness 4-givable. Even with his dirty stuff banished from the set, Prince works up a good, dry sweat, his current favoring of James Brown-style big-band soul revue and jazz fusion broken up by occasional blasts of rock-guitar heroism (including a "Whole Lotta Love" cover!). yeah. that person must not have a life either.

I think, it's pretty obvious he is talking about the inspiration, and events that went into making many of his classics, such great material... and I am really glad he does understand how important the music is to the millions of people, that his music has influenced in one way or another...
