Princely "fantasy band" in Eights just picked up a copy of 'eights' magazine (a local independent musician publication in manchester England). Each month they have 'fantasy band' in which the contributers 2 the issue all suggest a group of existing artists 2 create a godlike band. the final line up selected was: Organ: sly stone. piano (acoustic) Prince, Guitar (lead or otherwise) mike scott!! horns: bird & davis, Bass: jaco, Drums: sheila!!!! vocalist, james brown. lyrisict: sam cooke & Marvin gaye.
the article went on to describe how it may sound and the magazine even wrote a piece incoorporating styles and trademarks associated with the selected artists. the piece was very well researched & written, mike kelly (the writer) seemed 2 have a great appreciation 4 prince in particular (notice sheila and mike scott in the list as well). at the end of the article kelly joked: u can see the scene now, as the band are leaving the studio after 10 hours of recording, miles steps over sly and his cloud of smoke blocking the exit when he hears a shout "dont u b turning them lights on me now miles, u know i cant c my intruments in the dark!!. a good article. will post it up when i get my mo'fo scanner back from my friend "MR i'll bring it back next week"!!! | |
