HEADS ROLL IN THREES AT ARISTA

by RICHARD JOHNSON with PAULA FROELICH and CHRIS WILSON

ARISTA chairman L.A. Reid is wielding a big broom, sweeping away three high-ranking execs this month - two of them right after a corporate retreat. Last week, Pete Ganbarg, the man responsible for Carlos Santana's comeback album, was told to leave the office at once. "This is a slap in the face to Pete," said a source. "Earlier this month [on the corporate retreat to Puerto Rico], Pete spent the entire weekend doing L.A. Reid's entire presentation for the corporate honchos, and this is how they repay him?" Ganbarg wasn't the only one to get the ax - senior VP of creative services Ken Levy was also fired. And earlier, A&R director Michelle Ozbourne was let go just one month after signing a three-year contract with the label. Insiders say that Reid is just clearing out any employees who could be perceived as loyal to ex-Arista boss Clive Davis - but some go a bit further. "I give L.A. six months before they bring Clive back," predicted one exec, citing Strauss Zelnick's sudden and expensive ouster as precedent. Others say that's ridiculous - "No way would they ever do that, L.A. is producing great acts." Keith Estabrook, spokesman for parent BMG, said, "Arista is currently enjoying success with such acts as Dido, Outkast and Dream, and BMG is fully committed to Reid and his new team at Arista."
