Parliament/Funkadelic To Reunite For Woodstock '99, Taps
Rollins And Flea For New Album

With still-unconfirmed reports about additions to the
Woodstock '99 lineup abounding, it looks like fans can
bank on at least one notable reunion. According to the
artist's record label as well as a source close to the
festival, George Clinton's performance (which originally
was to feature the funk icon with his P-Funk All-Stars)
will actually see him perform with Parliament/Funkadelic
in public for the first time in close to 20 years.



The return of the Parliament/Funkadelic mothership will
also see Funkadelic release an album in October for
Mammoth Records. The label notes that the release is
"about 80 percent" complete, and currently features
appearances by Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea,
punk renaissance man Henry Rollins, Shock-G, and Del
tha Funkee Homosapien.



The reunited outfit is planning to tour behind the album
this fall, and the Parliament wing of Clinton's funk empire
is also expected to release an album for Mammoth next year.



Under the two different banners Parliament and Funkadelic,
Clinton and company spent the '70s bending minds and
rewriting the rules of popular music. Internal trouble
started eroding the group in the early '80s, eventually
leaving Clinton to soldier on with the pared down P-Funk
All-Stars.



Over the course of its colorful career, the band managed
to influence a diverse wave of artists from Public Enemy
to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Snoop Dogg.

It seems to me that the band lineup will stay essentially the same; rather, George is reactivating the names and concepts of Parliament and Funkadelic. Also, Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins will reportedly be part of the group at Woodstock.
