N.E.W.S., record of the month in the September issue of JAZZ MAGAZINE (paper edition).

Eric LEEDS says few words. James BROWN is on the cover. Quincy JONES, MOTOWN, Eddie HARRIS and Martin LUTHER KING are on the menu of this funky issue of the french "downbeat".
The lucky frenchies can buy it NOW, everywhere!
But the music lovers from the entire world should B able 2 order this number 540 at the end of September: http://www.jazzmagazine.com
Thank U, Mister Frédéric GOATY!

they have a nice piece on the dvd.

bought it yesterday at free record shop in brasschaat (antwerp), and I think it kicks *ss! showed it to my 60-year-old mother and she was blown away by it!

I saw her jaw drop on Pass the Peas and Gotta Broken Heart (the high screams, followed by the standing ovation...)

And the Ozzy imitation... too funny!

anyway, thx for the link larrylafunk!

It would be great to see NEWS get the attention from the jazz community that it deserves.

- It´s good that somebody like Goaty is trying to promote Prince in the jazz circle. But I dont know if it´s me, but NEWS is not a jazz album for me. It has lots of grooves, and not much improvisation. It´s an instrumental album that has jazz elements, but not a jazz album. BTW, a real good instrumental album smile

ok, so where did you hear that this was NOT improvised? both rhonda smith and eric leeds confirmed the album was improvised. they said that prince just told them the key. n.e.w.s. was done in one session.

though improvising is a major component to jazz, it is not essential to it. i do agree with you that it is not a true jazz album. i do know however that i like it.

Agree with both of you. Still don't have NEWS yet, but I really think a lot of so-called jazz albums are albums with jazz elements. Gotta go check out NEWS now! music
