Associated artists at NAMM convention Sheila E. puts on a Private show at Winter NAMM, as well as spottings of Rhonda, Kat Dyson and Morris Hayes.
From NAMM 2001 at Anaheim Convention Center in California: Every year there is a huge convention that is put on for the music industry by he National Association of Music Merchants to showcase all the latest in music gear for the music industry. I attend every year and have met or seen many Prince associated artists. Among the people I have met are Andre Cymone, Paul Peterson, Wendy Melvoin and Susannah, George Clinton, Sheila E. and her dad Pete Escovedo. As well as many other artists not directly associated with Prince. Members of The Police, KISS, Earth, Wind and Fire and the list goes on. Last year I reported on how a guitar company was going to manufacture Prince guitars and a lady that works closely with Prince was at the show previewing Rave 2000 on DVD. They had a replica of Prince's Habibi displayed. Neadless to say last year was more exciting. Perhaps becuase it was held at the LA Convention Center which was closer to Hollywood and major entertainment sectors of the city. If you want to know more about last years NAMM show search the Prince.org news section around this time last year. This year there was a bit of news that caught me by suprise, Sheila E. Performed a full set of around 10 songs on Friday night January 19th at the Hilton Hotel adjacent to the Aneheim Convention Center. I was not there, but a friend who's not too familiar with Sheila E. was at the show, so I don't have an exact set list. These shows are usualy set up by music manufactures to showcase there products used by major artists. The tickets are given away at the show and a limited number of VIP passes are given out to the who's who. I think Tama or some other drum manufacturer put on the show. Now, I did attend the Stewart Copeland show and from what I can tell you there were many video cameras taping the show by the audience so perhaps there is video of Sheila's show. Sheila was also signing autographs at the Zildjian Section of the show on Saturday at around 4pm. I did not attend that signing. I did take a few (and I mean a few) pictures of Prince related musicians who were at the show this year. You'll find them at my Photo Album page here: http://homepage.mac.com/g...Album.html See ya next year at NAMM! | |
