Will he or Won't he?

WILL HE OR WON'T HE?

Maybe the biggest local reunion news -- although the show is happening in Los Angeles -- is Sheila E.'s plan to regroup Prince's Revolution for a December concert benefiting a children's shelter. All of the main Revolution members have reportedly confirmed for the gig, which is also supposed to feature Apollonia and the Family's Paul (St. Paul) Peterson.

Of course, the big question is whether Prince is going to show up.

"We won't know that until it happens," said drummer Bobby Z., leaving out the guessing.

Prince has had rocky relationships with other Revolutionaries, but he remains tight with Ms. E. She even appears on his "Live at the Aladdin" DVD (out Aug. 19). Maybe Sheila can talk to him as she swings through Minnesota to play We Fest with Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band on Sunday.

i have this sneaking suspicion that P is planning this whole event, and the speculation of "will he or won't he appear" is nothing but a publicity ploy that he himself planned. I guess that's far-fetched, but it wouldn't shock me.

He'll show and maybe has already emailed the setlist to the band by now. There will be way too much Purple Rain money to be made next year not do this(that PR cd remaster and DVD with extras will drop with or without him). This event will test the market for a Revolution Reunion and possible tour that would include The Time and Shelia E. I know I would buy that ticket in a heartbeat!

on point!

I'm no a purple kool aid drinker. i don't like most of his output put post 1994. but i know that PR remaster... (or whatever it's being called) is happening, with P's consent and minimal input... and Glasto 2004 IS in the diary.. and in MY opinion like Xtraordinary said this gig could be a toe in the Water for a possible PR 20th Anniversary Tour. Many bands who HATE each other, (Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Guns N Roses), have gone on World Tours because it makes financial sense and the timing being right..

we'll wait and see.

Nah, that probably means The Revolution line up in Purple Rain. NOT the expanded 10 member line up that featured as "The Revolution" when they broke up in '86 ie: No Jerome, Wally, Brooks, etc, etc...

How this for a plan:

August 2003 - December 2003:
Prince releases his LIVE DVD and while everyone scopes the DVD, he gathers the revolution members at Paisley for some reherals.

December 2003:
Prince appears as a so called "surprise guest" at Sheila E's charity concert with past band members. They announce a reunion world tour for 2004.

January 2004:
Keeping his current NPG band on the downlow, John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith & Renato Nato take a one year break to do solo projects and other side projects. Prince takes the "Purple Rain" reunion tour on the road to the US, Europe, Japan & Australia. The Time are support act.

Summer 2004:
a new remastered Purple Rain DVD with all extra features drops half way through the tour. Whilst on the tour, Prince writes and records with the Revolution members for a new album. They work on a mixture of new songs and unreleased material intended for the "RoadHouse Garden" project.

December 2004:
Prince finishes tour with Revolution with big final show at Paisley (with a special aftershow at First Ave). The end of 2004 is spent putting final touches on the material recorded with the Revolution throughout the year.

January 2005:
After doing the reunion, the revolution part ways once again.Prince brings back NPG members Blackwell, Smith & Nato, and writes and records new album. During 2005, the revolution CD made from the previous year drops and keeps fams happy while he brews his new funk.

Can anyone add to this?

Who wants to take a bet that Pepe Willie & Chazz Smith pay the charity top dollar just to be in the front row of this concert so they can get that little closer to Prince, then ring up CJ to tell her, "All we said to him was 'Hey Prince, We love you man'but he wanted nothing to do with us...by the way, I have a new single "Just anotha sucka" Kirky J remix out real soon" wink

He, Dez was in Purple Rain. But, Dez plays for the "Lord" now, so he's out. He actually just sold his Modernaires/Little Red Corvette Solo Guitar on Ebay. Prince is history for him.

It would be cool if DNAPLAYA was actually "Prince" because this is an amazing set of ideas and it sounds like something he would actually; or could actually do. If Prince read this post then I'm sure that he would understand the potential and possibility of that kind of thing giving him that "spark" again. Life is short, so why not? Let's forget about that whole thing about genius artists like him don't have to go backwards to move forward because in this case it could be like a Steely Dan thing. Steely Dan current albums still fall in the exact recording and music frame from anything created 25 years ago. Timeless. You can never go wrong with the live thing and Prince's greatest strengths are rooted in his musicianship. All of the dope albums (as you know) are the ones when he's the one-man-band (live drums and sometimes the linn, live bass, guitar, organ, and piano for starters). For him to be in the midst of all those who helped inspired the dope shit (The whole "Parade" album, all the Wendy & Lisa's contributions, "Power Fantastic", "America" - the "live uncut" version; many more or course!) would only be a good thing him and also for the "fam" (us)! Don't front, you all know that you would do almost anything to see something like this happens. It's just the same as seeing Chaka Khan and Rufus doing a BET late night special featuring a set of their gems; both popular and unpopular cuts from their dopest albums (wouldn't it be nice to see that? Lawd...). He may come around y'all; I see him trying to loosen up now moreso than ever. Did we think that we would ever seeing him doing TV interviews in this lifetime? He did Oprah and Jay Leno, so there's hope for him to get down with the peeps that were around when he was making some dope music! Peace.

You may be onto something. You gotta think, Sheila is supposedly putting this thing together and we all that she's been a main stay in Prince's life and career since she first got down with him. They've always been tight and it may be something that he's indeed cooked up to keep the hype low key until he comes out and screws everybody up that comes out to see the show! He won't flake on Sheila and I know for a fact that she put the word out to him; so it is a good chance that he may fall thru! We'll see...
