Another report on Paisley Park performance 4 the 3rd week in a row there was another late nite jam at Paisley Park. B4 the doors opened at 1:50am security made the usual announcement and added that beer drinking is no longer allowed in the parking lot. It seemed 2 make 4 a more orderly line with less cutting in line this time. However, ppl need 2 b responsible & not just allow others 2 cut in from the sides & in front of them.
The D.J. really had the Park jumping shortly b4 Prince, The NPG(Morris Hayes, Kirk J. Mike Scott), Larry G. & Kip took the stage at around 3:00am. 1st song featured Kip on vocals. Then Prince took 2 his keyboards & led the crowd in a very funky jam with us chanting "Soul" when he said "What U Need" Next Larry & Tina sang "Water". Next Prince pulled out the lyric book & his new purple symbol guitar and launched in2 a jawdropping version of Sheryl Crow's "Everyday is a Winding Road". U had 2 b there, no description could do it justice. Then came Prince leading the band thru "U Can Make it if U Try" followed by Larry singing a song about a Lotta Lotta Love. Prince showcased the new guitar again on the Santana Instrumental, which was truly xcellent. Prince brought up the Mpls. Santana gig which he & Larry guested on a song or 2. He xplained that he was given a guitar with a big long strap & joked that he looked like a punk rocker & a guitar pick that looked like a big ol' Dorito. He said that after the show Santana played at Paisley Park 4 2-3 hours with him. When the crowd asked "How come we weren't invited?" he said "Ur always invited", b4 pausing 2 say "Xcept on weekends". The Finale was "Release Yourself" with verses of "Alphabet Street" then back 2 more of "Release Yourself". The jam ended at around 4:10am, which is a shorter jam than usual but mayb becuz there seemed 2 b ongoing instructions by Prince 2 the ppl running the sound. His look was similar 2 the previous weeks. Every1 in the band was smiling & energetic & rightfully so as this show was definitely unique. OVERALL RATING: * * * * 1/2 out of five stars. | |
