Wouldn't it be great if many people came out for this benefit, not only to hear funky music but to also give a little hope to these unfortunate kids? I agree that if Prince did join in, the attendance would greatly multiply. It really is up to him tho if he wants to support this creative, compassionate, loving project. So if anyone is feeling REAL Love4OneAnother please do not withhold your love or a contribution just because Prince doesn't play. twocents

I don't think Prince has to authorize the show as live performances of a copywrighted song is not illegal, just the recording of it without permission (I think).

But, if Price doesn't show up, who will handle the vocals on the Revolution songs??

Who would you like to hear/see?

I don't know who could handle his vocals... I guess nobody... he should come and have a great time.

But you know... Prince once tried to prohibit media outlets to use his his "name", i.e prince, because it was supposedly trademarked. That means that in Prince world his symbol was his intellecual property and everybody had to ask for his permission to use it. Nevermind the fact that he insisted on being called prince , a "name" that couldn't be pronounced either and so many more of that... nuts.

But you are right: he can't prohibit them to perform his songs live, but he may try to prohibit them to record and release it... as I was trying to illustrate... with Prince you never know what wack stunts he pulls.

I hope he does show up and that they have a great time together and that the show will be released on DVD and CD. If he doesn't show up, it will be just another missed opportunity.

I am a huge Prince fan and I would like to see this show happen. But you do have to consider something. Either they are expecting Prince to perform or they are planning other artists to join in. Why I am saying this? If Prince doesnt show up, would the general public would buy tickets to see his ex-bandmates perform in concert? Yes they are talented but nobody knows about them or cares to see them perform in a concert setting. the universal amitheater holds 6000+ and the forum holds 16,000+ we have a lot of npgmusicclub members here in LA but not enough to even fill half of these two venues mentioned, so how they are going to fill these venues if Prince or some other big acts join in?

Also keep in mind this is a concert benifit which means they will probably charge a lot of $$$ to attend this show.

just my opinion,

Daddypop33

I honestly think this will sell very well. I know fans from all over the country already making plans to be there Prince or no Prince. We just want to see the Revolution!!
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Great idea, but...

WHY is Prince himself not mentioned to be there?

Before you know the show will be prohibited because he didn't authorise it.

St.Paul would be the best choice to take the lead vocals or haven't you all listened to yo' "Family" albums in a while.
He's a Prince mimics' mimic.

Isn't it a bit ironic that someone who quotes the lyrics from Everlating Now doesn't want Prince to preach - isn't the lyric you quoted and the song you use for your scren name Prince preaching?

And hasn't Prince always preached - Purple Rain, the Cross, 7, And God Created Woman, Temptation, the Same December, Into the Light, She Gave Her Angels, the Holy River, One of Us, etc.

And aren't songs like Walk, Don't Walk, Money Don't Matter, Sign O' the Times, etc. also really preaching?

Maybe today's Prince wouldn't perform Darling Nikki. But wouldn't you still love to see him do Lets Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, Delerious, Kiss, etc, with the Revolution one more time?

YES PRINCE HAS ALSO WALKED THE SPIRITUAL SIDE JUST LIKE IN THE SONGS YOU NAMED, BUT NOW SOME PEOPLE ACT LIKE HE HASN'T BEFORE, I THINK THAT'S CALLED SELECTIVE AMNESIA!!

This is exciting, but the more I consider this, I think this is going to get ugly for the fans at large...

1) No single artist should handle Prince's vocals. That would be unfulfilling as all hell. My guess is that either there will be several guest vocalists (driving prices up) or Prince, himself, is going to be coerced to sign on last-minute.

2) IF Prince does it, the ticket price and stake in attending the show is going to skyrocket:

* First, I'd guess he's none too keen to attend (or will at least pretend not to be) without being begged and promised some astronomical compensation;
* Second, he'll demand that NPGMC members get first dibs at tickets, and then of course certain industry luminaries and those well-connected to them will get tix next, shrinking the ticket pool for the general public;
* Third, the show is going to be an immediate sellout, I think. True, The Prince of 2003 doesn't pack 'em in like he used to, but we're talking a retrospective reunion that will cover 25 years of music and a shitload of musicians who are legendary if only to his devotees!

This is going to get huge quite fast, an each of us is going to have to contend with every other Prince fan in the WORLD who can afford to go.

Not pretty at all. disbelief

It's a great cause. The only thing missing with Sheila and the girls might be Prince and his permission to use his material. That might just leave us with only songs from Sheila. The set list might look like this; The Glamourous life, The Belle of St. Mark, Noon Rendezvous, The Screams of Passion, Nothing Compares 2 u, etc... So we really need Prince or at least his permission if this is going to work.

They don't need P's permission. You are allowed to perform what you like in concert. That's how tribute acts exist.

Actually it's not at all ironic. For one, if you read my quote it's not the same as the lyrics in Everlasting Now. And the list of songs you mentioned are beautiful spiritual songs which I've always loved from Prince. They don't shove any idea or agenda down your throat. Preaching is "don't celebrate birthday's" "if you cuss that says more about U than it does me" or "don't eat meat"or "OH! God does have a name ya'll." THAT to me is preaching. Singing about the beauty of God to me is not preaching. Telling me that one way is right and another is wrong is PREACHING. And anyway Everlasting Now is funky as dog doo and I'm not going to not like it because most of the lyrics are more about how he's living his life, not instructing me how to live mine.

A line I wish Prince still understood and lived by:

"Some people love to make time for Jesus, but got no time for the sinners that be."

highfive

I still say Prince has always preached. You must not be listing to the lyrics to Temptation or The Cross if you don't consider them to be preaching.

"Don't die without knowing the Cross"

was ok with people, but

"Don't die without knowing the Christ"

all of the sudden caused problems.

Prince doesn't cuss anymore - big deal. I thought shortly before he stopped that he had started forcing cussing just for the sake of it. Count the Days, for example, is a beautiful song that is ruined by the forced cussing. I guess on the other hand, he's done many songs where the cussing fits in the song, Sexy MF, Damn U, Pussy Control, Housequake, Days of Wild, etc.

- Yeah, I agree completely with you. He always preached, but some fans started to get real angry after the rumours that he became a JW. And about cussing, I agree too. He was probably influenced by Sonny T to cuss so much at that time, some of it sounds forced, but the cussing really fits in the songs you mentioned...

It really just goes to show you how little some fans know Prince. There was NO fiasco, I know I was there. He was kidding with him and they BOTH were laughing. Prince also finished what he was saying with "thank you my brother". And there's no reunion without Bobby. He was the one the other member's called Daddy. He was Prince's best friend at the time and no one has ever played Prince's music better. And don't come back with some lame Purple Rain tour cymbal playing comment because if you do you should go watch the Parade tour and see how great Bobby really was. So take this fishslap and shhh

"Don't die without knowing the Cross" is waaay different than the "if you miss cussing that says more about you than me" bullshit! How can one of the most vulgar man whores of our time judge his fans??? He's cheated on most of his girlfriends, had a little drug phase, and was obsessed with greed, but now PLEASE judge the rest of us because now he's in the light. Yeah right jerkoff
