"Well, not really. I've got Purple Rain on DVD and video already, and the soundtrack on CD and cassette too. Do we need another DVD?

Does anyone really care about crappy DVD extras (aka disk-filler)? Why is this mentioned as an incentive to send Prince your bootlegs and CD singles etc? I don't think that's a very good deal"

I SAY:

Yes Ian, I care VERY much about a pristine, widescreen 5.1 Digital version of "Purple Rain" with extras! I am a film fan and a Prince fan and it's a travesty that there isn't at the LEAST, a widescreen, digital surround version of one of the most celebrated, rock n roll films EVER!! The extras could be great and I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting that.

Now, on the other hand I have no idea what that has to do with sending all those CD's to "The Way Of The Pharoah". I think that is all bullshit. I agree Prince needs to fight his battles himself and release more good stuff to us.

If Warners is keeping from doing this, somehow, that sucks, but there is no way sending my CD single of "The Scandolous Sex Suite" from Japan is going to help, and to assume we will pay for this out of our own pockets...amazing! These all have catalog numbers, their existence doesnt need to be proven by us sending them to Vermillion, Ohio, for Chrissakes!!

This is weird, but we'll see how it plays out, should be interesting, at least after 7 years somehting seems to be happening on the Prince vs Warners front. Litigation can take along time, folks, especially on that level!

Okay, here's what I think.. I dont paticularly care for the "Bait" he refers too when talking about remasterd stuff and outtakes.. He has known to make "promise" like responses that never surface, so that wont be a reason for sending him cd's..
Now, regarding sending it to him to support this fight? I really think Prince should look at it on a deeper level.. Is owning his masters gonna rest this fued? Is it gonna make Prince happier? or is it gonna make him more money.. there are a lot of questions being raised prior to this last move he is attempting to make.. Prince should be churning out songs that could run circles around that warner stuff.. and then feeling the joy inside of owning the freedom for which each of those songs stand for.. but still, he doesnt seem like a satisfied person untill he gets what he wants, but I must remind him and everyone here that... he signed a contract. I dont feel like Prince got too jerked around, he was making major bucks and he was fully aware of what Warner could do and did with his music.

it's absurd...he truly don't care about his fans, he's only interested in stupid fake spirituality, his legal obsection (that he calls battle) whit the warners and..money!! He wasnt so stupid in the '80, or at least he was a better actor...wonder why he's changed so much!!

I dont know how the man really is in life, and I could be wrong, but perhaps he should take a few steps back and aknowledge the whole picture... Of course I think he does in a sence, but it is dictated or there is a "tour guide pamphlet" from larry on everything he does...

I just get the feeling it will only get deeper and deeper, and soon his ass will be in the same boat as Jackson, one crazy mofo.

I'm suprised none of you can see the point here. WB has (for years) been releasing e.p.'s and singles as "imports" that sell mainly to U.S. and U.K. collectors because of variations in cover art, or extended versions of tracks (that were 'legally' released on vinyl). What Prince is hoping to do it get a huge collection of all of this crap (even one disc from each of us) to show that he's being ripped off. That Warner is doing this under his nose. This is not new news. If you ever frequented the old NPGMC and looked through the "discography" section he had all of those singles labeled as "unauthorized" or what-not 4 or 5 years back. For example. The Japanese version of "N.P.G." single is on there, what is that but 2 US singles (eps) put together in a different package? Notice that the US versions of these singles are not on the list. The record company is ripping of consumers and the artist in this case. We all should be helping Prince fight this battle. Considering that they've decided to start suing individuals for sharing MP3's (which everyone of us does), we should be outraged. These people have been the middlemen for far too long. It's basic capitalism: when you become obsolete then something else takes over. They want to take us down with them, and Prince is one of the only people fighting (albeit for selfish reasons, but non-the less).

I'm going to send in my "Backtrax" version of "1999". That peice of shit is not worth the $2.99 I spent on it in 1991 old school warner looking label or not! I bet every one of us has something on that list that is useless, something we could part with to help the man out... right? Think about it. That's all I'm saying.

Read my post before responding next time. I even listed the price I paid for the CD that I'm sending to him. I'm not sending him the bootlegs and others that I want to keep myself, that would be stupid. If you want to horde and horde and horde and scream "no mine!" for the rest of your life, that's great. Then you can be just like THE MAJORITY of other inconsiderate jackasses in the world who only care about themselves. Just don't take it out on me because you've got no love in your life.

YES! OOOH YESSS! Seee!

We just need to help the brother!

C'mon!

Why can't the brother be able to write this shit himself? why does it always have to be some anonymous NPG operator shit? Why is there never a name or any normality professed by these folks?WTF is prince's problem? If it's his wish, then why doesn't he write this shit himself? he ain't no fucking kid.

I'm just overjoyed that Prince is even CONSIDERING releasing all his classic REMASTERED, OH! With RARE footage - deleted scenes - alternates - anything!
keep on dreaming that he will and forget about the countless promises these mf's have made. Very "smart". prince and his crew got you all hooked up with their shit.

[quote]It's simple, we help him, he gets to re-release his stuff just like we've always wanted/want! He's listening to his fans/fams! He knows what's up![/qiuote]
bullshit, he is doing this all for himself.

And I agree, I did not spend a dime on that Brazilian DVD, it's ridiculous crap put out. The photo wasn't even from the era...look at that crappy, the Very Best of Prince, badly designed and basterdized release...they put 3 photos of Graffiti Bridge era photos on the cover...sheesh.[/qiuote]
then he shouldn't have signed the deal.

And again, if you're reading man, re-mastered movies, albums, maybe box sets, mini-LP Japanese albums, special packaging, original artwork, rare photos, with recollections/stories/commentary, unreleased live or videos as a Vault Series...! Just stuff that we WILL buy in a heartbeat!

And just the stuff that he promised for years and has released SHIT of it. And this crap email about bootlegs Brazilian DVD's and "unofficial" (whatever the fuck that means) has got nothing to do with all those wishes of yours he knows you have, but won't give you.

I'm sending him something on that list and I'M NOT a member (yet) of his club.

smart move, NOT.

Hey, if this helps Prince re-release AND release his Vault stuff, I'm all for it. It's part of doing the Work. No problem.

Wake the fuck up dude. It won't help shit! If he really wanted to release the vault he would have done it along time ago. You are TRIPPING!

I'm saving my pennies for that day when I see that stuff made available to come to my door! And that means I'm not wasting it on video games or W Boxes or meaningless DVD's, I'm re-directing the funds to what brings me joy, Prince's work.

Cool? Cool.

Keep on waiting for eternity.

Yeah, you're such a realist. I don't care what you say, eternity whatever.

I still hope to see cool stuff and I'm sure we will, this is all a process of getting to that stuff. I suspect one day, all the negative H's will stand in "oh".

I don't really complain, whatever. The thing is it's just no big deal, send him a tape or an old CD, big effing deal.

Well written.

I'm really suprised at the immature and jaded stance by many fams here.

I've been a fan since way back, I cherish my collection, my albums, even the few boots (morality aside) I have, they were part of the experience and trip Prince has taken me. I wouldn't let go of my Japanese CD single unless I had an extra one. But most of the stuff on the list SUCKS!

And yeah, I want an effing DVD with extra stuff! I want 3 disks worth! I don't care if others say, "oh, DVD's are sooo over saturated with meaningless extrasss..." ... stfu !!!

Luckkily, I haven't spent a dime on DVD's of movies and bs like that. I prefer Prince stuff over that plablum.

Being a fan is wanting more of these goodies. I will continue to dream, I will continue to purchase his stuff at whatever price it comes my way, well, maybe at sensible prices...but you know what I mean.

It's like this whole $18 is too much for an album...is it really? It's your favorite artist, it might well be worth it!

Just stop being selfish with your effing CD's and give a little to get a little more back...or just give. All these things are material things...the experience, that you take with yourself to the other side...

Agreed. My favorite Prince stuff is not his current work, but there are still things he's doing that I do agree with and one of those things is bucking the record industry. My intention with my first post was to point that out. I was probably a little harsh with the other post, but I really felt you'd missed my point. Your apology is accepted.

Not to dredge this up again, but just in case anyone is still following this thread...

Earlier, there was discussion as to the legitimacy of the SOTT DVD. Someone suggested that it was a legitimate release associated with Alliance/Atlantis but I suggested that the Alliance/Atlantis VHS was simply the source that the DVD was pirated from.
Anyway.
I finally got an answer from Alliance/Atlantis about their association with SOTT. Here's what they had to say...

"From: HomeVideo@AllianceAtlantis.com
To: XXX@XXX
Subject: FW: DVD Question
Date sent: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 13:43:29 -0400

Thank-you for taking the time to write to us here at Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Group, Home Video Department.

Our rights to this film lapsed some time ago. Your copy was likely pirated from an old VHS copy but we are not associated with this release in any way. We thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I hope this answers all of your questions, any further inquiries please don't hesitate to contact us, and thank-you once again for writing to Alliance Atlantis Home Video."

Thought I'd pass it on!
