Been waiting 5 days to be able to post. From what I have been reading there a lot of good points. Matthew nailed it.

Since day one I have loved his music and could care less about the persona.

As far as sending bootlegs and cd singles, give me a break.

Promises are all he gives now a days. Someone quoted him right around the gold exp/slave period. Where he basically said once he was free he would release discs direct to his friends for $5.

There were several albums of work at this time, gold, exodus, and another rumored acoustic which I believe was the truth. Then came his normal drop everything and release 3 discs worth of stuff (emancipation) which had some really good stuff and a lot of filler. I then went to see him at NYC roseland.. Great show.. "Hey you want the tape"...sure ...how much... $20 for 2 songs... He is as guilty as WB is. How do you charge you remaining die hard fans $20 for a tape? Its not dream factory.

Bootleg wise ... Prince was putting out these releases back from 86-early 90's. How does a man who works alone or with Susan Rogers, Kirk Johnson, and maybe one more occasional engineer in his own studio complexes since Dirty Mind (albeit much improved as he got more money) have A++ quality outtakes with extensive liner and session notes such as the great Jewel box sets and platinum, studio nights etc. Truth is it doesn't. I used to go to Revolver Records on W8th NYC for all my stuff and then they got raided. In the time period I quoted, Revolver would have every release possible, and they would receive free tix to concerts and movie screenings from Princes inner circle, then all of a sudden around the time of gold exp, they rcvd ceise and desist.

Bootlegs do not take money from an artist. Online burning of official releases might( arguement for another time). I have 3 copies of the black album + the official. If tomorrow he said send me a check for $1000 for a 20 disc set of tracks that I have several times like moonbeam levels, extra loveable, witness, etc I would in a heartbeat.

Of course he will tease multi sets, with "dig if you will"

well dig if you will a fan base so strong and devoted to the most talented musician who happens to be the biggest you know what since Sly stone, who is so lucky to have fans who will still buy discs with 4 good songs and then whoever is hot on his album. Some D'angelo and some NPG, or maybe some Macy, or maybe some Nikki Costa, will guest on a below avg song. Or some below avg rapper. No I am not talking about Chuck D. GAME BOYZ!!!

Bottom line Prince ain't getting nothing from me until he recognizes us and shows us some respect.

Does he owes something, I think so. Cause those 300,00 copies of the vault and chaos weren't bought be you avg pop radio listener.

Here a few suggestions:

Begin a monthly release schedule for outtakes and live concerts in their full setlist. They have been recorded such as my Paris 86 boot from the first nite in Aug. Not the one with last heart. Can be dvd's also. Bands like Ween have done this with success (plus they love Prince)

Get a mail order system that works. He can build a class A studio complex that is regarded as one of the best places to record and rehearse but can't produce a couple thousand cd's, can we say Crystal ball?

Bring Alan Leeds back. He seemed to handle business very well and allowed Prince to play aftershows and remain creatively free while still making some money.

Learn to think like a talented actor like Steve Busciemi and Deniro. They make Major pictures in order to finance more creative and dear to their heart projects.

Release your new stuff however you like.

Have D'angelo and ?love produce your next album look at what they did with Voodoo, arguably the soph album my any artist. Plus they are huge fans who have all the boots to reference.

Stop editing concerts and releasing them. The editing is annoying to all.


Sorry so long, but this kills me for a long time now. I have wrote Ben several times saying the same thing.

I wish he would start leading rather than following again and then he and we will probably be much happier. I buy every release with the hope that it will not be the same SOTT but rather the next SOTT. I want to listen to 10 songs and say holy s*** this is groundbreaking, not chart wise but music wise.

Oh by the way someone said he had released more stuff than any other artist. Look at the Zappa catalog!!! Still pulling out gems for the fans. Pearl Jam also does this.

Collection: all official releases plus about 100 cherished others that I took the train into NYC every weekend for at age 15 and spent $20 per disc for.

fav songs: witness 86, a place in heaven, wonderfull ass, dorothy parker.

Amen Andrew, I have been wanting to say what you said for a while. Every fan (fam , whatever) should realize the man is all about the man and uses us as pawns. If your all about music, then MAKE MUSIC! You know if he would just realize that if people spend $20 -$30 for a bootleg they would gladly spend the same amount for a legit release from him. Buying Bootlegged albums is not about theft for a fan, but about love for his music.

the only way you'll get any of my rare stuff on that list is if YOU personally come to my house with a signed 12" vinyl picture disc...


otherwise, my stuff stays RIGHT HERE!!!
