My takes a little different...
Most of the stuff listed was badly packaged, rushed and cheap anyways, I have few of the things but If Prince is going after the Giant who's about to fall, all powers to him. Get 'em! As far as the bootlegs, I suspect that it's for a something along the same lines as whatever he want's the "unofficial" stuff. I won't send that stuff though. Reminds me of the Black ALbum WB requested deal where they waited somewhere with a big trash can for you to trade your Boots. This was back when they released it in '94. Anyway, Let's just hope Prince is gearing in releasing the stuff or re-releasing them as re-mastered special editions, box sets, Japanese Mini-LP's whatever, if that's the case, I'm sending in my back to backs.

I wouldn't say that most of the stuff listed was badly packaged - most are singles and are packaged just as any singles are. Personally, I love the japanese EP releases. I'm all for Prince and his struggle with WB, but he really needs to confront resonable issues with them directly. I fail to see how calling on fans to send in copies of official releases helps anything. If they need evidence for a case, they should check eBay or the corner music store.
As far as their explanation goes...alexxa15 makes the point that should be very obvious to Prince - there are a TON of Brazilian bootleg music DVDs. Heck, you can buy the things at Best Buy, Amazon and Borders. These releases have nothing to do with WB or any "real" label. I don't recall ever hearing WEA International mentioned along with this DVD anyway. Since WB never had any rights to the SOTT film to begin with (at least in the US), do they think that someone at WB, just to piss Prince off, bought a VHS copy and sent it to a bootlegger in Brazil to manufacture? If the DVD was of halfway decent quality I might think that someone "official" might have had a hand it its manufacture, but it is clearly a hack job from a bootlegger. PLEASE make a case for the problems with WB! I think there would be a ton of support for a just cause. Dangling the possibility of a Purple Rain DVD (and that's WB's decision, not Prince's, to make) and asking fans to mail CDs to the Pharaoh of Ohio really make it seem that there is very little belief, even from within, that there is a reasonable argument to be made. Publicity stunt. Controversy = press.

Episodes like this only make more people angry about him (the name change, etc). Why not concentrate on strong and great music, Mr Prince? Why not spend this time trying to reach the masterpiece level of songs like ´Ballad of Dorothy Parker´ and ´When doves cry´? It would make us happy

If all of you like Prince as much as you say, you would help him out. ___ In The Sun At night I wake dreaming. My mind like an open transcendent tide, Never ending with a smile... Whisking me thru the sorrow of another goodbye. Will you ever again say hello? Or smile within the memory of my existence ... Did you know, I still think of you Your the blissful moment in the corner of a familiar dream. Who eludes me like the content of tomorrow. Still you stand there in my heart, in my mind. Yet I can't embrace the love I once knew. So distant like you, I close my eyes and dream... you are there again. In the bits and pieces I could fit together with only my pen. © 2003 Fusciah ***

I'm not a member of the NPGMC but that really is an odd request. I guess I could understand him not wanting to buy the bootlegs himself though, I mean, it's like giving in to your enemy there. But no matter what kind of crap he pulls, or what kind of junk he releases (although having said that I've found musical value in just about everything he's put out good or crap especially compared to what the rest of the pop music world releases) we can all spin our copies or Purple Rain, Sign..., or whatever until the end of time. At least we have that. memories of what he once was are just a touch of the play button away. In the meantime, enjoy the bootlegs! p.s. Kodjo the shirt was hilarious! I busted a nut laughing at that shit! You GOTTA tell me where you got that!

Announcement: NOTICE - PaisleyPark9 Posted: 23 Mar 2003 ...Let Prince steward his OWN catalogue, AAARRRGGGHHH - Here we go again. Prince doesn't OWN that catalogue becuase he was PAID by Warners to WORK for them. If he wasn't happy, he shouldn't have... a) signed the contract b) taken the money and blow the fucking lot of it ! Prince - go listen to Lettitgo and take your own fucking advice pal. You worked for Warners, got a damn good wage, and then decided to leave. I worked for an arsehole of a boss in 1995 but 8 years on I can safely say I'm not as fucked up about it as you are. How much longer are we going to have to put up with this "Slave" stuff ? When I got that email, I was like, "this is gonna be fuuunnn." I have a theory that P is a rabid orger and was sick and tired of it being so boring around here. If it would actually help the brother out somehow, I would happily send him my one actual bootleg album (Fantasia, a bday gift several years ago). . .the rest of my unauthorized collection is all tapes and cd-rs from fellow Orgers who sent them to me, for free, just to be nice. The problem is, it is entirely unclear what the fuck he's planning to DO with these. The court thing is bullshit. . .it would prove nothing, and provide no useful data, to have random fans send back random recordings purchased in random locations. That's just a lie. I need an actual reason to spend my money to send one of my personal belongings to a random po box in Ohio. "Prince wants me to" has not, thus far, been a good enough reason for me to do ANYthing in my life, and that has not changed. So, I emailed them back, and politely asked why they wanted us to do this. I have not received a response.

In classic Prince fashion, he is pimping the idiots who beleive everything that they read or hear and take it literally. He says and does stuff just to fuck with you and get publicity. It is quite ingenious because it keeps him in the news since the general public doesnt always hear her new music. It has to be an experiment to see how much they will get and to see how loyal some fams are.

I would presume that Warner Brothers has the right to distribute his music internationally, so I don't understand how his label was not authorized to distribute these recordings.
As far as the bootlegs, well, he may be well within his rights to ask for them, they are unauthorized recordings. But shoot, I have a right to ask Salma Hayek to marry me, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. Yet. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

in this case, do you think he'll return stuff after the experiment?? NPGMC says they want copies for a legal issues, but I'll tell you something: see, the list, see how detailed it is (with catalogue numbers). Know what it means? They already have a copy! They want to track ALL the copies from fans for some publicity reason, maybe they want to burn them in public, who knows.. cheers

I know it is hard for you to do any sort of deep thinking but, let me suggest a few things. First of all, I never insulted you before, ever. So there's no need to start shit. Debate my comments if you like, but be a fucking adult. 1) Maybe Prince wants the CD to help make a legal case against WB. There have been case's were record companies defrauded artist by not paying them the proper roylaties for CD that the artist sold over the course of their contract. I do not know if this is what the e-mail is about but, perhaps that is the case. He already has the CD's. He just wants people to lose their copies. Look, he has personally gone to stores and has literally taken his bootleged CD's from the racks and walked out the door. He has more boots than his biggest fans. This whole thing is a scam. 2) Maybe he wants to compile these items to put out some sort of box set respective of his career. Are you serious? My darling, he has everything in his vault, plus unofficial live stuff that's been on the market. 3) Maybe you and everyone else should find something else to do with your time. Instead of hanging out at this site all day and ranting about a person you do not even know. It is obvious that most people are not going to send anything so why are you getting your underware in a twist over the matter. I'm not losing sleep over this, and no one else is either. It's a topic worth discussing. You just don't like people to say negative things about Prince. My take is that this to shall pass and in a few weeks the nay sayers will be right back on this site. No one is leaving this site now. The good thing about this site is that we're all free to discuss all issues, positive and negative. --- "Debate my comments if you like, but be a fucking adult.[/b] How adult is it to suggest that people send shit in a box to Ohio. He has more boots than his biggest fans. This whole thing is a scam.[/b]" Once again I did not know what he was trying to do until he put out a new statement on his site today. I was just taking a guess. In addtion, what is your problem with Prince taking the bootleged CD out of the store. It is illegal to sell bootleg CD at least he took them and did not call the cops. "]I'm not losing sleep over this, and no one else is either. It's a topic worth discussing. You just don't like people to say negative things about Prince." You spent a lot of time on this site yesterday going on and on about this topic. You even went and started another thread about this bullshit. Are you sure you are not losing any sleep over this? I do not really care if people say negative things about Prince. You see I have no relationship with him so I do not lose sleep on your negative comments. By the why what do you think about the possiblity that the WEA International is selling DVD's and CD oversees without paying Prince. Do you really think it is o.k for WB to do shit?

ChristopherTracey967 said: Ok folks, chill out. A quick word to the wise about the business that is music.
First of all, the email from NPGMC was very poorly worded, lacking in explanation and a tad condescending. I concur with the above about Prince getting a decent manager again, or at least a NPGMC manager with a titter of wit and communication skills. My reading of this, based on about 20 years in the music biz is that WB may have failed to submit returns for these specific releases on sales statements and in turn royalty payments; in effect inferring that they were never relesed. Thus to prove they were, Prince needs evidence. They should explain the scenario, ask if anyone who has these recordings would be prepared to provide details of where they were obtained and when (if they can remember), a signed affidavit to that effect, and if some kind of re-imbursement is offered, would they be prepared to send them to Ohio, or wherever. But CHEESUS what a way to ask for them!! As for the bootlegs, well thats another matter, totally illegal but a waste of time even trying to enforce. "Crying after spilt milk" springs to mind. Prince, relax about the boots man, fans are gonna buy your live releases no matter how many boots they have or are out there. The impact on your financial gains from this practice, albeit morally questionable and upsetting for an artist, is negligable and you could NEVER hope to make any major impact to deter it. All you would really be doing is persecuting real fans who enjoy hearing everything they can; YET STILL BUY THE OFFICIAL RELEASES. Casual record buyers dont buy, or have no clue where to buy bootlegs, and they make up the vast majority; so forget this insurmountable cruscade and concentrate on making records that those masses will once again wish to buy, OFFICIALLY. Yours, Maurice Jay Cherry Moon Management and yes P I will manage you if you ask nicely --- Great point Maurice Jay. Prince went about this in a stupid way but the point is WB is fucking with his money.

Than his response was, that the website is going to be shut down room per room, so our response to that might be oh please don't shut down the website, we'll buy the new dvd even if it is chopped down to 80 minutes.
