Fourth San Francisco concert report

AWESOME TO THE HIGHEST POWER SQUARED!!!!!
is my report on the Ruby Skye Private Party! It was billed as such by Radio
WILD 94.9 with tickets only at The Warfield Theater.

The following is the playlist as I recall it, (except for Najee's 2 jams).
They are not in order except for the first and last two songs:

[pre:0deadbeef0]
Uptown
Pop Life
Controversy
Let's Go Crazy
Nothing Compares 2 U
Diamonds & Pearls
I Wanna B Your Lover
Do Me, Baby
Little Red Corvette
Rasberry Beret
Gett Off
Cream
The Legend of Dorothy Parker
Scandalous
Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad?
The Beautiful Ones
Housequake
It
Purple Rain
Pop Life (first encore)
Kiss (Last encore -- contrary to "First Report from SF by Youngworld".)

Here is my take on the event, use it as you like:

It was worth every cent ($100) and every minutes (2 hours, including the 9
total hours of standing)! It took 3 1/2 hours of standing in line to get my
ticket and wristband. It was announced that no one line up before 8 a.m.,
but I walked the 4 blocks down to The Warfield where the tickets were on sale
and there already about 200 people milling around both sides away from the
door, so I knew I would be one of the lucky 800 people to get a ticket to
Ruby Skye. I knew if I got a ticket to Ruby Skye I wouldn't need to get a
ticket for the San Jose show. I went to the Event Center the last time
Prince was there and I was about 2 blocks from the door to pick up my ticket
and then you either rush in to get a seat near the stage in the balcony area
or you have to stand on the no-seating floor and look way up at the
shoulder-high stage.

Then I stood in line from 6 pm until the doors opened at 7:15 pm. (Even
though tickets said the show starts at 8 pm -- as if -- after another 2 1-2
hours or 9:30 pm.) We were filmed while standing in line and of course we
all screamed for the camera.

I was in like the first 30 people to get in. I immediately went front and
center and it was 5-people deep already, with about a 2-foot break between
the stage and us, so I figure I was about 10 feet or less from HIS mike! The
closest I have ever been to him. The place holds about 800. It is quite a
beautiful club. (It was originally a movie theater.) Before the show
started, they had disco music playing, but you didn't want to groove with it
because you didn't want to get sweaty, as we were elbow to elbow. So if you
moved to get a drink or go to the bathroom, good luck getting back to your
spot unless you had friends holding your spot for you. I made sure I didn't
need to go to the bathroom by not drinking much water before the show and I
didn't buy a drink so I wouldn't need to go to the bathroom since I didn't
know anyone there who would save my spot. I would have gotten my friend a
ticket, but it was one ticket per person and she would have had to stand in
line with me that morning as well, but she had to go to church. Anyway,
around 9 pm, they hit us with the spotlight from the balcony and had the
camera filming us from topside as we waved and screamed. Then they threw
down those fluorescent sticks that were snapped to form circles. By now, my
feet were aching and people started shouting for Prince and 15 minutes later
shouting "Shit, god damn, get off your ass and jam" -- he still did not come
out. Finally, at 9:30 pm, THERE HE WAS! I forgot what was hurting for the
next 2 hours! The show started with "UPTOWN", then "Pop Life" (they were
filming the whole show, so I believe I am on film singing along to Pop Life
(YES!!!) because the camera was like 5 feet in front of me when he turned the
camera toward us! Najee did a couple of solos here and there that were
familiar, but I don't know the name of the tunes.
He started the show wearing a black outfit with white trim at the collar and
cuffs, a black & white NPG neck wrap and a white stripe down the side of the
pants. He later changed into a red jumpsuit with a fat white collar (which I
thought looked like a Santa suit with a zipper down the front -- which he
pulled down to his navel and showed that lovely hairy chest. He had a red
scarf which he threw into the crowd. The last outfit was just a white
pullover cotton V-neck top with black pants and the NPG neck wrap. He also
threw a regular towel into the crowd, which I could not catch either.

Geneva is quite a contortionist. She was bending over backwards on the floor
and had her feet down by her ears. She was doing the worm and doing backward
flips/cartwheels. I thought to myself she must have left her bones hanging
in the closet because she moved like she didn't have any in her body. Mayte
must be VERY understanding, as Geneva has sexier moves than her.

He came back and did two encores, he did Pop Life again and then came back
and did "Kiss" He was doing his usual splits and spins. Played plenty of
guitar, which I loved. And he liked that we knew the words to all of his
songs, except Dorothy Parker. They were all old jams from his 1980s albums.
The band brought people up on stage to dance and he came out and played
guitar and danced around them. I was practically crushed from all sides when
they started pulling people up on stage even though we were like 10 feet
back, as there was a blocked off couple of feet in front of us where the
camerman stood. I could hardly clap without the girl's hair in front of me
getting in the way and could hardly raise my arms to do the waving, and got
poked with elbows from both sides in my breasts (luckily no bruises). That's
how close we were, so there was no way to reach to the stage for a high-5,
darn it. I would have had to stand next the speakers to be closer, but then
I would have been completely deaf.

We tried to get him to do another encore, but they started playing the disco
music. I was dripping wet from all the body heat around me because I could
bearly move my hips to have worked up that much sweat by myself. I got out
to the sidewalk and I could bearly walk the one block home! When I got home
at 11:45 pm, I went straight for the water, and then I downed a Bud! I
undressed but it took me an hour to relax and my feet and shoulders went on
full ache. I used this foot roller to massage my feet and that helped alot.
I finally went to sleep hoping I could walk in the morning. Luckily I had
talked to my supervisor before the show and she told me I could come in late
this morning, so I got there at 10 am. If I had walked to work naked I
wouldn't have known the difference because my feet were fine (my hearing was
a little dull), but I felt like I was walking on Cloud 9! My boss who always
teases me about Prince told me she had never seen me that happy. I told her
that was the best Christmas gift I ever had.

One more note: the tee shirts on sale at the Club were the same new ones
online at NPGonlineltd.com., one with the lips on it, one with the turntable,
and one with NPG Funky on it. Was hoping for one with the nude poster on it,
but no such luck.

STARHEARTU signing off.
