Ruby Skye review number two Well what can i say about the Ruby Skye show? Not much only because it truly left me speachless. I have gone out of my way the last month or so to NOT read ANY online reports of previous shows. I wanted to be completely suprised as far as the set list and performance itself. After not going more than 6 months without seeing prince for the past 3 years it is hard to compare this show to another. Definately a toss up between Northrup and Ruby Skye.
Northrup was special with Angie Stone, Q-tip, Doug E. and Brown Mark with more of a "jam session" feel, however Ruby Skye was "pure Prince". I heard (complete) songs i NEVER though i would hear played live, housequake, scandelous and darling nikki to name a couple. People often ask me "Why" "why so many shows" and "how many times do you have to see him?!?" and last nights show was just the reason and explanation i am often looking for. He seemed so energetic and actually happy to be performing rather than the typical Jam.. The band was excellent and i felt they worked together very well. Mr. Hayes... never changes, always a ham.... John Blackwell... I havent been wowed by a drummer like this since Michael B. He beat those drums and make it a performance at the same time.. he was awesome to watch and i gave him much love! Rhonda... u go girl.. still one of the baddest bassists around.... Kip Has such beatiful vocals and i hope he gets a chance to shine on his own a bit. Najee can play the horns like nobody's business... I love the part when Prince told him to "talk to the ladies" Romanitc, moving, sexy all feelings Najee "spoke" to me last night.. Geneva is so beautiful! She is the kinda woman who makes me proud to be a female also.. all that confidence and grace carried without attitude or ignorance...not to mention.. a phenomenon to look at! Songs from Sign o' the times was probably the biggest and best part for me personally... to see prince 6 feet from me actually "doing the Housequake" was too much... songs i actually remember the day after.... (some complete and some snippets) i wanna be your lover.... sexy dancer....controversy... uptown... do me baby... little red corvette... lets go crazy.. take me with you.. beautiful ones... raspberry beret... pop life... kiss... housequake... ballad of dorthoy parker.... diamonds and pearls... cream... gett off and of course darling nikki : ) I wish i could report on a completly accurate setlist but when you are that close to the stage you cant even "push it up" let alone write down a list of songs.. I am getting real close to saying no more general admission for me... but then i look in the mirror and get back to reality. This started when i was 8 years old, i am 26 now and after TONS of shows and three trips to Minneapolis I still say it's all about the music... And there was some serious music at Ruby Skye last night. Peace Shalon Proud Member of the Dream Factory and BayNPG! Now on to Vegas! | |
