He does not want to get out too much music at one time as the fear of it becoming way to much too handle in the financial department.

Maybe that's true but you know what ?
Go back 10 years in time. What was the main thing our man was whining about when he took his first steps to leave the industry ? He said: THEY DON'T LET ME RELEASE AS MUCH MUSIC AS I WANT. WHEN I'M FREE I COULD RELEASE WHAT I WANT AND WHENEVER I WANT. I COULD EVEN RELEASE MUSIC FOR FREE.

Huge expectations arose amongst us Prince followers and noone can blame me, and all those other guys here at the org (a free and uncensored forum, god bless) to measure Prince with his own visions.

Just think about the ONA live set. Prince's music has never been more expensive.

Maybe purplekat is right. Sometimes I get the impression that public success hasn't become as unimportant to him as he wants to make us believe. Maybe this is why NPGMC sucks so much and there is no REAL benefit to the members (except the tour last year. This must have been great for those people who attended the soundchecks etc.)

Anyway ... the huge amount of posts on this thread proves that the way Prince treats his fans is really a topic. If I had once millions of fans which have now shrunk to the rest of a few thousand loyal followers, maybe I would treat them a little better. We are WILLING TO PAY. That's not the problem but just give us an equivalent value for our hardly earned bucks.

- Strange...I have the feeling that this ´wider audience´ will never come. Simply because he doesnt have a great marketing team to support him (like Springsteen has), he is not signed with a big record company and because teens probably think he is an old dinosaur. I wish more people discovered his music, but it seems very hard. Maybe if he concentrated on his fans, he would keep them supporting him.

Isn't it strange that there's is no one in his crew to tell him that to release a 80 mn only live DVD is silly/ very frustrating for the "fams"
+ his wife used to work for him, she has talked to some of "us" in the past, I wonder if she dares to open her mouth when her husband makes bad decisions like this one, I guess..

Unfortunately, I don't think the true fams are the target audience for this DVD. He's reaching for a wider audience, and maybe he thinks that casual observers won't have the patience to sit through a 3 hour show! Maybe it wasn't Prince himself but the distributors that pushed for this edited version of the show, but somewhere along the line an executive decision was made to tailor the DVD to suit a release to the general public rather than just the loyal NPGMC members! I hate to say it, but he already has our subscription $$$'s...now he's looking for new members to join up! This track list seems to be a somewhat dishonest representation of an otherwise fantastic show...I know, cause I was there! (Ironic isn't it that the various bootleg shows floating around, while dishonest in their methods, are actually a more honest representation of the actual concert experience!) Check out the attached press release info and tell me he's not after those people that still think he's just an 80's has-been!! Well, good luck...I hope he does manage to open a few of their eyes (and wallets)...but I don't know! I really think he needs to just be grateful for the loyal fams that he already has, that have stuck with him through thick and thin!

"Prince live performances are the stuff of which legends are made--and the first official DVD from his own NPG Music Club, Prince Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas (NPG Music Club/Hip-O Records), released August 19, 2003, is no exception. Recorded December 15, 2002, during the Sin City stop on his most recent tour, the approximately 90-minute Prince Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas brings the Prince experience home. The concert headlining Prince and the NPG (New Power Generation) also features special guests Nikka Costa, Maceo Parker and Sheila E. With Parker on sax and long-time Prince compatriot Sheila E. on percussion, His Royal Badness is backed by a band of bassist Rhonda Smith, keyboardist Renato Neto, trombonist Greg Boyer, saxman Eric Leeds and drummer John Blackwell. Brilliant musician, charismatic performer and one of pop's most influential figures, Prince takes his blazing guitar in hand and rocks the house for several thousand fans. Delving into his classic `80s era, the party is on as he performs full-blown renditions of "Gotta Broken (Heart) Again" (originally heard on 1980's Dirty Mind), "Take Me With U" (from 1984's Purple Rain), "Pop Life" (from 1985's Around The World In A Day), "Sometimes It Snows In April" (from 1986's Parade, which was also the soundtrack to Under The Cherry Moon "Strange Relationship" (from 1987's Sign O' The Times) and "Money Don't Matter 2 Night/The Work" (from 1991's Diamonds And Pearls). "1+1+1=3" includes the Ohio Players' masterpiece "Love Rollercoaster" and Prince's own "Housequake" (from Sign O' The Times). An excerpt from a yet-to-be-released song, "U Want Me," is attached to another Diamonds And Pearls track, "Strollin'." Three more recent recordings get the Princely treatment as well: "Family Name" and "The Everlasting Now" from 2001's The Rainbow Children, and a bonus clip of "The Ride" from 1998's Crystal Ball. In addition, Costa joins him on "Push And Pull" from her 2001 U.S. debut Everybody Got Their Something. Prince and crew also cover "Pass The Peas," the vintage number from The JB's, James Brown's backing band which included Parker, and Led Zeppelin's psychedelic rocker "Whole Lotta Love." Prince Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas follows the June release via the NPG Music Club of his latest album, N.E.W.S., which contains only four songs, "North," "East," "West" and "South," each clocking in at 14 minutes. N.E.W.S. is Prince's first album of new material since The Rainbow Children, another concept album originally released through his npgmusicclub.com Web site."

(P.S. I can't believe they're still referring to him as "His Royal Badness"!!!)

First of all, I will wait until NPG says what the tracklist is. Remember allthe bogus tracklists that preceded Rave and every CD release since Emancipation? Still cant understand all the specualtion about what will be on a new release.

Secondly, this thing will rock if the Pop Life clip is any indication. Just having 1+1+1is3 with the Love Rollercoaster breaks is enough too make this thing STANK!

Prince is funk.

And the DVD SUCKS!

What? No Rainbow Children? No piano medley?
Did these not happen at the Vegas show? I saw him twice in London on this tour and this tracklist is nothing short of an insult to those shows- the second of which was three hours long and not a dull second in it! Why does he not show what he's really capable of? Stop hiding your talent Prince. I pray to God that there will be an extended version of the dvd.

- Oh, the artwork is crappy. I dont think the DVD sucks in terms of music. But Prince wastes another opportunity to reach a wider audience this time judging for the artwork. In the 80s, he was very careful with his artwork. Remember the covers of Around the world in a day and SOTT? Still timeless...
But this DVD artwork is completely loose. The designer must have done it in one hour...

If following prince has told us one thing over the last 20+ years, it's to expect the unexpected. How many times have projects been pulled / changed / reworked in their lifetime. The only time I expect new music now is when it's in my hands.

We're a pretty insatiable bunch of people and people are correct in saying that we'd pay any amount of $$$ for unlimited access to the man's music. The only problem with this is that the guy is a perfectionist. If he isn't 100% happy with all the tracks performed at the Aladdin (or anything he's produced for that matter), we can be damn sure he won't release them. And I believe he has every right to do so - I sure wouldn't want to put out most of the things I've recorded in the privacy of my own home.

So I guess we'll just wait and see. I'm sure whatever comes out will surprise / disappoint a few but as usual, I'll be there waiting in line, at the website...the queue...wherever

sounds like if he included the 2nd part of the concert-on piano- it would have been an even better concert.
Either way, if it's anything like the MSN "The Work" video clip, it should be an amazing DVD.

Kudos to P for releasing more music! OWWAAH!

For what reason did he release half of a concert?
I would gladly pay more money for the complete show.
He left out some of the best songs (like the ladder among other choices and included Family Name? Bad choice. You would think that Prince has better sense..

Prince remains one of the greatest pop performers alive, sexy and menacing without any of the awkward self-regard that often afflicts so-called legends yeah but he's more than that, that's why Im disappointed once more
