Another Cincinnati concert report This was not the best Prince show I've been to, but
overall, it was a good show. I won't go into a detailed song-by-song review, since it's basically the same as the previous Hit-n-Run shows. I will say he was able to breathe new life into the old songs he's been playing for years. Here are a few observations... POSITIVES: - The crowd was great, which is usually the case..especially in the smaller venues - His guitar playing was smoking! I hope he continues to play a lot of live guitar, rather than bring in someone to play - "The Beautiful Ones" was definitely one of the highlights..glad to see him play it all the way through - John Blackwell! Wow, I was impressed.. I thought his playing brought an "edgy" feel to the music - Oh, before the doors opened, he poked his head in the lobby a couple of times, which was kinda funny - I was sitting behind Peter Frampton, and he seemed to be getting funky! NEGATIVES: - I have to agree with what others have said about Najee.. I respect his playing, but it just doesn't seem to mesh with Prince's music very well.. (where's Eric Leeds!?) - Kip Blackshire? Now, exactly what's his duties in the NPG again? - Geneva.. she's Ok, but a little distracting at times (then again, maybe that's the point) - Not enough focus on Rhonda.. he seemed to give the other band members (especially Najee) plenty of spotlight, but he really never let Rhonda turn it loose | |
