Prince at Glasto - finally confirmed

On BBC Ceefax page 541 it says Eavis has confirmed they have prince lined up for Glasto 2004. I know rumours have been around ages but its on the BBC so its that bit more official!

[Also, org member 'Igo2DaMax' sent in...]
Michael Eavis reckons that Prince has promised to attend Glastonbury next year: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/h...029330.stm

It's the first time I've seen the name 'Prince' scroll along the headlines banner on the BBC website where it didn't concern Charles or William!

We'll have to wait and see, as usual.

Purlease! The festival doesn't even have a license for next year yet.

And relying on a promise from Prince from months ago when they were trying to secure him for this year -- some people are waaay too naive. Prince has cancelled concerts mere hours before they were supposed to happen.

Not sure how Prince would go down with the mainly 'indy' crowd at Glastonbury, but there again, they had Rod Stewart last year and that went okay, so who knows?

How's Prince gonna stop everyone bringing cameras to the gig?!

If BBC2 cover it like they did this year, then we should get quite a bit of footage of Prince performing, which will be good.

I'm always amazed at how well everyone performs at this big event, even new young bands with one album and no track record seem to come on and kick ass these days...

Only thing I'd worry about is what set Prince would perform...

New material or classics. Or maybe a mix would be pretty good, but I cant see his jazzy new stuff being received brilliantly at Glastonbury.

Not that I would mind...just aslong as he plays Purple Rain.

The both can't be compared. Rod used to be in the Small Faces.

Instead of making your text bold and blue in a desperate effort to stand out, you'd better be REALISTIC instead of pretending that this is gonna happen. They couldn't secure him for this year, and we're supposed to believe they've got him for next year?

Prince has been "confirmed" to play Glasonbury the last 5 years or so...every year it's a "sure thing," and every year it doesn't happen. It's just wishful thinking.

Rod may have been in the Small Faces, but he's a jazz-loving crooner who hasn't had a chart hit in ages, now. Sound like anyone we know?!

if Prince is the only reason you'd go to Glastonbury...please stay away!

Now, I know we just can't count on Prince to keep his word. But, I also know that Michael Eavis doesn't spout of rumors that aren't legit. If he's saying that Prince is playing, then I believe as of this moment Prince has commited to it.

I think he'd go down brilliantly there!

i definately think he's playing , and i think he will go down a storm but only if he plays a greatest hits type set , and if he does this i do hope he plays full versions of the hits and not one line of one song and then a line of another , can you just imagine the glastonbury crowd all waving to a complete version of purple rain , the thought just brings goose pimples . Its about time the world witnessed the ultimate prince show , a good prince glastonbury show would eventually return him to the public light to a brand new audience , and anyway prince has always had an indie type following , doing glastonbury could well be the best decision prince has made in over a decade.

I don't think it was ever confirmed that those "marked" dates on the calendar were for a Celebration at all. I think everyone was just getting their hopes up in anticipation. Turns out it was the dates of the N.E.W.S. online "celebration". . .

Did anyone read the link to this story? - Prince "promised" to perform in 2004. "Promised" - not signed a contract - not confirmed by Prince's reps.

And who remembers Rod Stewart's days with Small Faces? No one under 50 thats for sure.

i spoke to a uk music agent on monday who told me that prince was due to play this year but sacked his agent recently and couldn't orginise all the details in time. he was however, going to play a greatest hits show and has apparently agreed to do this show next year. i was also told he will headline the saturday (the main night).

personally, i think prince would blow glastonbury away if he played stuff that the audience recongnised.

not sure that's correct. he was lined up to play the Sunday as that's known as legends day. previously done by Rod S, David Bowie, The Kinks...

they wouldn't put him on Saturday as that is the indie / rock scrowd.

i just pray IF it happens it's a greatest hits. it would go down brilliantly!!

Glastonbury is a music festival taht takes place on a farm in...Glastonbury (a very rural place where people marry into there only family)...I live near there.

Unfortunately for Prince I really dont think he is going to go down well at all...there are some serious rockers and Indie-kids headbang that go there and I dont think tehy will tolerate Prince in his spangly pants and high heels.

Many musicians have failed to win over the crowd and it is a custom that they get bottles of piss thrown at them.

It always rains, the fields are full of cow shit, everyone is dirty and tired...the last thing they are going to want is an 80's musician (thats what people will see him as) talking about loving god, loving cows and how we all need to live for the Truth!!! cheese

Can you imagine the outrage if somebody said Michael Jackson was going to headline a rock festival...people see Prince as the same.

Bad Move!!! Bring on the piss omfg
