Second report on Detroit gig Just wanted to let everyone know that the concert last night in Detroit was not all it was hyped up to be. The show only lasted an hour and forty-five minutes. I stood in line longer than that. Prince played a great show, as always, but it was over too quickly. We all stood there clapping and screaming, waiting for him to come back out, but he never did. He said, "Goodnight Detroit, My second home, thank you!" No one thought the show was really over when he played Purple Rain, someone had to come over the mic and tell everyone to go home! I had a seat in the Balcony, third row. The State Theatre is so small you could see his impecable manicure from even the highest seats!
Prince didn't play anything within the last 9 years. The most recent songs he played were "Cream" and "Diamonds and Pearls". However, he brought the house down with "Housequake!", "Scandalous", "Darling Nikki", and many other hits from the past. Najee's version of "God" was beautiful and Geneva did a great job dancing, though I believe Mayte would have put on a better show. In all, I think it was a good show, but it was definitely a "Hit n Run". It was like Wham-bam-thank you ma'am. Hopefully, his tour next year will be longer and more fullfilling. I've been to Prince shows that lasted up to 4 hours, last night was incredibily quick. But I don't think anyone was disappointed. One last thing, his speech during Purple Rain was crazy! Why does he always get so political. He started talking about the Presidential Election in the middle of Purple Rain, can you believe that? It made sense, but still, I would have prefered for him to sing the song. | |
