Eighth Cleveland report cleveland is a cool place... temperature not withstanding, i found much coolness in this ohio city one sunday night in nov. 2000. having travelled from texas 2 rendevous with a best friend (travelling from pa.) so we could attend our 1st show 2gether was cool enough. sitting in the 2nd row don`t neither. having cameos by the original human beat-box and the father of the funk sho`nuff kept the tempered vibe consistant. seeing (1st hand) songs like `uptown`, `mutiny`, `cream`, `diamonds and pearls`, `nothing compares 2 u`, and `come on` live 4 the 1st time cancells any critique of staleness from this fan. one who has attended 13 concerts spanning 16 years, covering 6 tours and in 7 cities. (i have been BLESSED) blessed 2 have seen this man in concerts, aftershows and even at paisley (twice). so i guess u could say i have been exposed 2 a variety of experiences with prince performances. one thing i have learned along the way is that, like a book can b read, so can a performance b heard in between the lines. not just lyriclly, but also musically and most imortatantly in the delivery. this is called SOUL y`all. anyone attending sunday`s show could have heard it, if they wanted 2. but u have 2 b open. open 2 the notion that NO prince show will ever b what u totally expect. prince has his own agenda when delivering a shared statement of his talent. being predictable and/or stale ain`t on it. wish i could say the same 4 more performers out there. (`i`m not tryin` 2 step on nobody`s toes`) take this 2 heart as well... of the 10000 fans attending a prince concert in a regular setting, maybe 750 keep tabs on his recent performances via these chats and what-not. MOST of those folks r blown away by the song selections because they don`t know what`s coming next and have no preconcieved notions. they`r just plain happy 2 b there and jam with the man. it`s about emotional responses 2 the 1st note of most of the tunes played. sunday night i could feel so many others feeling that vibe, not 2 mention a few chills of my own, and check this out... i had some doubts myself after reading a few playlits from the 1st 2 nights. MY BAD! but also my good, because i was open 2 what ever may happen, and it did. or rather, he did. he delivered a top quality performance and had me dancing more than i have at a concert since the lovesexy show in houston... yes, cleveland is very cool place and the cool folks i encountered while i was there deserved the show they got. highlights 4 me were: `uptown`, `mutiny`, `scandalous`,(surprisingly)-`nothing compares 2 u`, `darling nicki`, `she`s allways in hair` and the final jam... but what blew me away was the blues versions of `i would die 4 u`/`baby i`m a *`(i just wish it would have been longer). the other was `when we b paid...` and the `so true` statements he made relating 2 radio, its programmers and the `powers that b`. go see `bamboozeled` and u`ll know why i was compelled 2 yell out `PREACH! BROTHER, PREACH! sunday is a good day 4 truth. it`s also a good day 4 prince concerts in cleveland, nov. 2000... peace, and keep it on the 1. P. | |
