Beck covers Erotic City in MPLS

Beck metions talk about P coming to his show. We all know the outcome biggrin http://www.beck.com

::: 06.14.03: the purple one and the pink one :::
rumors of the purple one (no kids, not barney) coming to our minneapolis show to join in on a song were rampant. apparently he'd heard we were covering a work from his opus (erotic city). alas, he did not appear, but we did erotic city anyway and threw in hot in heere as well. our show was fairly ferocious. the band is getting more aggressive and confident.

Yeh, he played this in Brisbane, Australia in March as well. I think he's played it on most of the Sea Change Tour gigs. Damn Funky too!

one would think that as a result of so many of todays artists being inspired by Prince that more of the general public would check him out

Beck's a fantastic artist. Also seen him twice live, once on the Midnite Vultures tour, then saw his one man show at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Both gigs were superb!

- Very true, and it´s good to see Prince covered by serious artists like Beck, Joshua Redman, Living Colour and Herbie Hancock (not to mention the great Miles Davis). It always bothered me to see so many talentless artists covering him. It was a disservice to his music.
Speaking of covers, does somebody have the jazz version of SOTT played by that australian pianist? I think it´s extremely rare. Please send me an org note

Me too! Debra reminds me a lot of "Adore" in a weird way.

It's supposed to be a parody of 'Adore' and other "let me lay you down..." prince styleee tunes. i agree, it's absolultey fantastic, yet doesn't take itself too seriously.

funnily enough on Weird Al Yankovics latest album 'Poodle Hat' he does a parody of 'Debra'. it's very good.

- Well, you are saying parody in a nice way, right? Because Beck pisses his pants in respect to Prince. Most of the Midnite Vultures album was made inspired by Prince. For me, that album is a tribute to Prince

yeah. a parody as in a version with added comic affect. it's all done in fun. i wouldn't say the album is a completely prince. I think Beck took P's influences and made his own record with it. the album is hot. in fact it over just about everything P had done since the D&P album.
