Fourth report of Philly performance

OK. . . Here's the scoop!! The set list was exactly like from previous shows, including the "rant". There were a few surprises. The sound at the Academy of Music was out of this world. As close to perfect as I have ever heard. . . SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!!!

Unfortunately, while we were wainting the two-plus hours for the show to start, they played some dude that I have never heard before, over the PA. Why didn't they play Prince??? Hell , I have a few CD's they could have borrowed if they didn't have any. If there was a place, I would have pulled up "Da Bubble" again, so that all of my fellow fans cold party while we waited anxiously.

Just before the show started a few people toward the front of the theatre noticed Shawn, (the skinny one) from Boys 2 Men sitting in the box at the very front. The first portion of the show had short little pieces of the old standby's, but after the first costume change it got more interesting. Yes, he did do a lot of old stuff, but it had a new twist . I enjoyed the old stuff just as much because it was different enough to be new, but yet familuar enough to sing along. The version of When Doves Cry KICKED ASS. At first I thought that the song would be a bust because he brought out the electric acoustic, but it sounded surprisingly good! A little latter he broughh out the purple guitar for Purple Rain and had a ROUSING shred!! My boyfriend, who is a avid guitar player and thinks Prince is just OK, was particularly impressed!! Even he had to admit , that our boy can shred with the best of them. Toward the end of the show he brought up some fans from the floor, about 20 of them. Among them was this one chic with the pink tank, man oh man, that lady could dance!! I wouldn't be too surprised if P didn't recruit her on the spot!!

A little later, Prince was joined on stage by Shawn and a couple of others who where taking turns showing their voacl prowess (Not that this is a bad thing, it lasting just long enough)

The only real complaint that I have is similar to the other shows. . . .TOO MUCH SAX!!! I mean it was OK, but enough is enough! No disrespect intended to the guy ( I don't even remeber his name, sorry) but, we did not come to see this dude go off on the sax.

All in all the show seemed pretty tight. I didn't really notice any missed cues or technical problems. Like I said, the sound quality was absolutely awesome!

I wish I could have gone onto the after show, but we were getting really tired. I am looking forward to any further reports of this show or the aftershow.

This is the Fourth show that I have been to and they just keep getting better and better.
