Afterparty in Richmond An official after party was held at Cafine's a dance club in downtown Richmond. Cover was $20 and there was a sign on the door specifically stating it was an after PARTY not a show. Many were turned off by the price and left. About 200-300 were inside. It was one of the best after parties I've been to just because the DJ was nice enough to throw plenty of Prince into the mix (1999, Let Go Crazy, Thieves in the Temple, Gett Off, Controversy). The entire band minus Prince arrived about 1:15am. Geneva and Rhonda (and some other girl) hung out upstairs in the VIP area and ordered drinks/food. Morris, Kip, and Mr. Blackwell came downstairs and mingled. Spoke briefly with Morris - genuine nice guy. I stayed until last call at 2am and Prince had not shown.
For those of you going to future shows, be careful. A local radio station was advertising an "official" after party at a different place than the one actually announced at the concert. [Editor's note: I concur with your warning about misleading afterparty announcements. The day before Prince's May 1997 Louisville gig, I was handed a flyer for an "official afterparty" at the Brewery. The afterparty actually took place at another location. - MWC] | |
