Several were familiar arrangements from recent tours. Notable exception was Kiss on which Prince played the One-Eye Bass so nobody played guitar (looks like he's still experiementing with how to play this song live). Najee was a nice touch, but it got to be a bit much after awhile. When he played God on the alto sax, it sounded exactly like you'd expect a Kenny G does Prince album to sound. Best part of the experience for me: ladies and gentlemen, we once again have an awesome drummer! I have decided to call him Mr. Blackwell out of respect. He's a joy to listen to and to watch (constantly twirling his sticks). He's got the power and funk of Michael B but with more speed and flair. Prince had to scold him a little on When Doves Cry when he started out a little off from the sampled drum loop (Prince broke it down, whent over and fussed at him, then started it all over again - this time he got it right). Geneva is beautiful and talented without the hoochie mamma butt of Mayte. Nice addition to the stage. Nice to see Rhonda again. Her stand-up bass is no more like the normal orchestra insturment you'd think of than Prince's piano on the Rave PPV is a regular piano. Another nice touch. Would have like to see him give the keyboardists more solo time. It's always great to see Morris again. All in all a good show. | |
