Ninth Worcester review All in all the Worcester show was pretty terrific, and since everyone
else went into detail, I just thought I'd mention my personal high and lowlights. I recognize that to see Prince in a club is a rare occurance. I was right up at the stage. I could see the man's eye color and the roof of his mouth for God's sake, so for me this was a big thrill, since the other 3 times I've seen him I was way back. That all being said, the wait to get into the club was ridiculously long. We had to claim our tickets at 6pm, and then wait outside in the cold for two hours (originally doors supposed to open at 7). We finally get in, rush to get a spot close to the stage, and the Man makes us wait another 2 hours, just standing there. Now, again, I chose it, but seriously--two hours to make his fans stand on their feet!? Forget about going to the bathroom or working your way to the bar to get a drink and risk losing your spot. A girl fight broke out next to me. Very tense. Added to everyone's frustration. Doesn't he understand how tempers can flare and potentially cause violence when you make a crowd wait so long in crammed quarters? When he finally got on stage, though, it was impossible not to be transfixed. Absolutely exciting to hear him work "Uptown" and some of the old joints. Darling Nikki and Dorothy parker were unexpected and phenomenally performed. His new dancer Geneva is an absolute bombshell and seemed to add an air of joy to the stage. Too much emphasis on the NPG performers, who are, of course, talented but don't exude enough charisma to carry the stage when Prince is gone. "Housequake" was incredible. His solo guitar playing was fierce. His spiritual rant was cool but a bit rambling. My actual main beef with the show was that I was hoping he'd play some new stuff we've never heard before. Even shit from Rave or New Power Soul. He did nothing new. All in all, a terrific show. The man can still do splits. I just wish he'd have been more thoughtful about the fact that his fans shell out $65 bucks to enjoy his show, they shouldn't have to stand for hours on end in very uncomfortable, potentially dangerous circumstances, just to see it. | |
