Worcester report number eight

It's always a good thing to see the man perform and the band was kickin', but I agree with many who have posted about problems with this show. To me they were:

1. The place was over sold. The place was too full. I don't know who to blame it on, but if he is taking control of his business, that should include the way the so-called 'fams' are treated at his shows. 3000 people times $65 equals $195,000. If that's not enough to make it a little more comfortable, charge more or move to a larger venue.

2. Alcohol and time to drink it. I was also on the floor about 20 feet back. The scene was tight and tense, but many cool people, too. I'm 38 and have been to many shows of all types and this was just another example of the standard tactic of let them in and make them wait so we can sell drinks. People probably would have paid $10 or $20 MORE for the show to start on time--or for the "technical problems" to have been dealt with a head of time. I didn't see any work being done to the sound system between 8 and 10 so I've gotta think there's other reasons why we had to wait. I can't believe that the man in charge couldn't solve these problems. IF HE DECIDED TO RESPECT THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT HIM. Love4oneanother.

3. The material. Prince on a bad day is better than just about anyone else's best day, but I'm probably in the minority in saying enough of the greatest hits. There is so much good music to draw from (his own less known songs and covers that he does so well), do we really need to hear medlyized versions of his (sometimes tired) hits. Were there any songs from later than Diamonds and Pearls? Can we be trusted to appreciate his newer material? I think so and hope so.

As a long time fam, (seen him 11 times since '84). It is becoming harder and harder to remain so. He's geting more isolated from the people while at the same time his "spirituality" becomes more explicit. If we are going to talk the talk about God and love and truth (which we should) it don't mean s--t if we can't walk the walk.
