NPGMC ads on Google

Here's why the 2003 NPGMC website is only available after paying $25: they're advertising it using Google AdWords.

Just look what happens when you search for "Prince music", "Prince live" or "Prince dvd":
http://www.google.com/sea...ince+music http://www.google.com/sea...prince+dvd http://www.google.com/sea...rince+live

http://groups.google.com/...ince+music http://groups.google.com/...prince+dvd http://groups.google.com/...rince+live

It's been going on for a while actually, and the ad wording has changed (a previous version didn't comply with the Google AdWords rules).

Still, this is a massive waste of money even if NPGMC only pays for the clickthrough, because who'd pay $25 for a vague website that promises "previews" of a DVD?

He is not bitching he is just giving out info with an opinion attached. I happen to agree that it is probably a waste of money.

I agree with Bart on this one. I bought this year's membership along with the previous years and I feel its a waste of money. Only one new song so far.

Just so you know, when you pay for listings, you get a sponsored listing which comes up as a green box on the right hand of screen. The only one I have seen on your links is for some download site. The money is probably being used to pay someone for all the flash work on the site. Maybe you should do some research before you try spreading negative vibes about the man! mad

They're using money made from the site to advertise? Holy crap! I'm glad other companies don't use revenue to advertise. Could you imagine seeing Coke and Yahoo and Nike ads all over the place? What a nightmare that would be!!!

Abrazo

Just imagine what they are doing with the personal information they gathered from you and it is no wonder that it is "only" 25$.

Not. The. Same. Thing.

For those with slow brains: the point of advertising is that you have to have something to sell. In this case the question is: who would be the kind of person to follow-through this ad to a VAGUE website that offers little information on what's on offer except "previews" of an upcoming DVD, for the price of $25? Answer: no one. But every time someone clicks on that ad, NPGMC has to pay.

Investing and advertising is okay, but this kind of advertising is just silly and ridiculous.

And comparing NPGMC to major brands? Get real. It's a poxy operation run by amateurs with complete disregard for customer care.

1) There's an NPGMC ad with EVERY ONE of the links.

2) The Flash work is done by Samnation i.e. in-house and thus already paid-for.

Wow, do you take EVERYTHING literally? NPGMC doesn't have Nike's product, clout, or cash? Thanks, I never would've figured that one out man! And to clarify, again, I'm JOKING with you. Not everything is meant as argument fodder. Legitimate curiosity: what do you laugh at, other than things you laugh at in a mocking way? What movies do you find funny? Seriously, I'd kinda like to know. Personally, I'm partial to "Office Space" and "Swingers."

Prove that. Where did you get your statistics from? I agree with your OPINION that they won't get many sales from that ad, or from any other form of advertising. Not until Prince has a hit on the radio. Which seems highly unlikely now. But if they want to put the effort into it...well, once someone's given them their $25 it's the NPGMC's to do whatever they want with it (obviously within legal restrictions). By the way, did you or have you ever been a member of the NPGMC? If not, then how do you know exactly what they currently offer, or are going to offer before the year is up? Heck, I'm sure Prince hasn't even written tracks or albums that may be available before year's end. Just chill and let it be what it is.

From an advertising standpoint, I agree with Bart omg . If NPGMC has to pay every-single-time someone clicks the link, then they probably will lose more $$ than the gain.

The likelihood of someone following through on an "ad to a VAGUE website that offers little information on what's on offer except "previews" of an upcoming DVD, for the price of $25" is slim to none. On the other hand, people who are curious enough to click the link at Google, will probably at least be intrigued enough to consider joining. The site looks great and Prince has alwyas been 'mysterious'.

Still, I tend to think that the "kind of person" who would join with so little information is probably already a member by now.

But hey, ya can't blame them for tryin wink
