Connections between the Waterboys and Prince

Not to cause confusion, but there's another musician named Mike Scott He's the leader of "The Waterboys," who are probably most popular for a song titled "The Whole of the Moon." In the late 80s they transformed from "big rock" like U2 and the Alarm to an Irish/Celtic/Rock kind of sound. At one point it was not uncommon for their concerts to include "Purple Rain" or "I Would Die 4 U."

Mike Scott has reformed the Waterboys. I was checking out their FAQ at http://www.thewaterboys.com and came across this:

Who inspired "The Whole Of The Moon" ?

Mike has often said that the character is a composite of many people. Some have said it was about Prince though Mike has denied this. He once mentioned that the author C.S.Lewis was "in there somewhere".

Also of note: their live version of Purple Rain appears on the live CD called "Live Adventures of the Waterboys."
