The Ivan Lins show was incredible, for many reasons. First I had to get over rebeling in the majesty of the historic
Carnegie Hall. This is a venue that's had every major TALENT play there from Billie Holiday and Judy Garland to Aretha
Franklin and Chaka Khan (CK celebrated moving to the Big Apple, by playing Carnegie in 1983). This was my third time
there, and im always in awe of the place. Then of course hearing Ivan Lins's beautiful music (for the first time, I might
add)was an extra added thrill. The show was divided into 2 parts, with the first concentrating on Ivan and other
Brazilian musicians. The music they performed can only be described as being beautifully brilliant. After the first part,
there was a brief intermission (where I had this incredible honey glazed turkey and swiss cheese sandwich with honey
mustard, on homemade bread), that lasted about 15 mins.



The second half kicked off with the introduction of the talented musicians (who would play for the second half),
including bassist extrodinaire Will Lee and Mr. Jason Miles. Freddie Cole performed a beautiful Ivan song,followed by
Dave Coz doing another Ivan tune. Then my baby Vanessa Williams (who looked absolutely beautiful)came out. I
couldnt tell you what the titles were, because Im new to this music, but Nessa Williams turnt it! Next came Brenda
Russell who took the stage to perform 2 Ivan songs. After Brenda, came Peter White (my boy), who worked his
performance. Then finally , the introduction I was waiting for, ladies and gentlemen, the one, the only....CHAKA KHAN.
The place went up!!! Chaka walked out (with that walk)wearing the leather dress worn for the Luther finale with
gloves. She sang the mess out of "Crazy for this Love". At one point she and Ivan were trading scat solos, AND CHAKA
WORKED!! She hit a "Got To Be There" like note at the end, which resulted in me almost falling out of my box seat. I
had the best view of the stage (I was right above her, in the balcony, stage right). The sound was increbible, Chaka's
voice bounced off of the wall (the acoustics at Carnegie are unmatched). Chaka seemed to be having a good ole time,
and seemed familiar with ALL of the musician (brazilian and american) on stage. Everyone came onstage for the finale.
Chaka and Vanessa stood next to each other. Vanessa gave Chaka a big kiss, then the 2 began to clown around on
stage. Chaka was doing her brazilian dance. Dionne Warwick was one of the celebrities I saw, enjoying the show. It
was a fantastic night. Bryce
