Yet another report on Friday's performance Another Paisley Performance report swiped from alt.music.prince:
The details about the DVS "songs" have been glossed over in all of the prior glowing reports. If he's on the tour with Prince don't bother folks cuz he'll ruin it big time 4 'ya. I've seen him several times at Paisley buzz-killing the jams. Here's what someone else had to say about the show: Quickly: P came on very shortly after two a.m. The band consisted of John Blackwell, Morris Hayes, Rhonda Smith, Najee, and Kip occasionally on keys. He has sort of a new look, almost clean shaven with curled hair (very similar to the Lovesexy tour), and was wearing black pants and an odd pin striped stylized suit coat. The band started into an unnamed groove that lasted for well over 20 minutes featuring Prince on guitar the entire time. He started on Habbibi, switched to the cloud guitar after maybe five minutes, and finally grabbed the Telecaster. Takumi tuned up an acoustic but it didn't get used. Incredible guitar playing; there appears to be something inspiring him that hasn't been present for quite some time. After this, Prince replaced Kip on the keys and they went into a GREAT version of Dorothy Parker. Spirited but faithful to the original with particularly good vocals by P. They extended it into a long jazz jam as well with everyone turning in amazing solos. Unfortunately DVS and another cat got onstage shortly thereafter and proceeded to ruin a rather tasty groove (featuring P on bass) with some trite party chants. The crowd seemed visibly unhappy with them. After the untitled song ended DVS was sort of wandering around by the side of the stage, and when someone in the front urged him to leave, he spitefully came back and started another verse, and then proceeded to stand at the front of the stage with his back to the audience for the rest of song, apparently intentionally obscuring the view. They need to get rid of this guy fast. After he finally cleared the stage, P walked off and Kip played a quick song accompanying himself on the piano. Well done but unremarkable. And that was it. Well worthwhile but a rather anticlimactic ending. Oh well. | |
