Prince's feud with Warner Bros. mentioned in Spin In the November issue of Spin there is an article titled "Masters and Puppets" written by Steve Knopper. The article is about the recording industy's treatment of artists and their art-master recordings specicially. Prince and his struggle with WB is mentioned.
The quote-"Artists as diverse as XTC and Aimee Mann can tell tales of giving their record companies new music that the labels have rejected without letting the artists shop the material elsewhere. For several years, Prince tried to gain control of his master recordings because he wasn't satisfied with Warner Bros. promotional efforts-it's one of the reasons he ditched his name. Earlier this year, he actually vowed to rerecord his early albums, song for song, and release them himself." | |
