Prince mention in Chicago Suntimes In Today's Sun-Times there is a small mention of Prince in regards to the 20 year history of the Metro. As most of you may know the Metro is one of Chicago's most famous rock clubs with a long history of memorable shows. There is a list of owner Joe Shanahan's top 20 moments of the first 20 years. Included with Prince(#19) is: R.E.M., Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Bob Dylan. It states: Prince, 2000: "He loves my club, he really does. He likes our room. I think he's been here four or five times though the years, but this last time with Macy Gray and Common-it was kind of a wack-a-doodle night, no one was quite sure if he was going to play, but he finally did, and he did this Santana thing that was really great-better than Santana! At moments like that, I'm no longer the club owner, I'm the kid who's forked over his 20 bucks and is so excited."
After waiting in line for 4 hours in the freezing cold, the show really was worth the wait. The look Prince gave when Macy started swearing was priceless! The show was mentioned on the Rainbow Children disk so it must have been memorable to Prince too.

"...after a four hour wait in the freezing cold..." that one sentence has cost Prince hundreds, maybe thousands of fans who refuse to do that kind of "penance" in hopes that he'll be playing at some club.

That person probably got out there really early and did not go to the main show at the Riviera. It did not take that long to get in the Metro for those who went over after the Riv show ended, which was also off the chain! Also, I remember that day - November 20th, 2000 - Hit & Run Chicago. It was a cold day and a little drizzly at times but it certainly wasn't freezing, at least not by Chicago standards!

Interesting... It says in the lyric book of TRC that "Macy and Carmen were there", but now I see it's actually a trick, supposed to be "Macy and Common". I love all those TRC quirks! Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

That aftershow is probably one of the worst ever concerts he's ever done. © Bart Van Hemelen

so bart, were you there at the aftershow? i would have loved to see the sanctimonious look on Prince's face when Macy cursed. you GO girl. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Hey Babydancer! Yes I was hyped , but I still remember everything about that day! Aside from it being the first time that I ever danced face to face with Prince, it was also the day I met YOU!!
It was mid-fall and a week before Thanksgiving! Definitely a cold day that may have felt like 14 below to you because your azz had been sitting out there since 6am!! If it had really been that cold, it would not have been drizzling, it would've been SNOWING... Chili-Peppa!!

I was at the Chicago show too-made it into the VIP section during thge Riviera show. That was MY favorite night ever in Chicago. The after show was cool too-don't be saying otherwise-I was worn out after that 3-4 hours of artistry in one night (morning).

One of the best aftershows, and best shows period, was at the Metro during the '93 Act I tour. Stole a spot in line, had to borrow the fifty bucks to get in from my boss (also in line), finally got in and then had to wait in a crush of people until 2AM for the hit... but it was worth it. Buddy Miles, of all people, sat in for a blues and, of course, "Them Changes" -- with P doing his Hendrix thing. Mix was great, full band (including horns) sounded amazing, as usual. Even copped a bootleg of the show years later. Very fond memories of that night.
