Select Prince for "Best Live Band" at Rolling Stone.com

http://www.rollingstone.c...efault.asp Though most of the bands listed are a complete joke and he is up against Kiss, vote for Prince as "Best Live Band".

As I said in the thread devoted to this my vote has to go to Bruce Springsteen. Prince is brilliant live, but Bruce delivers each and every show while Prince occasionally misses and misses badly.

Did you attend the show at the Northrup for the first Celebration? That was a sever miss as was the entire Hit and Run 2000 tour.

FutureShock

When you read the subtext to the title "Best Live Band" it puts a different but important perspective on the question.

Rolling Stone says:

"Who puts on the greatest live show? The editors at Rolling Stone came up with a list of 100 great live performers who are currently touring or have toured within the last two years. It's your job to select the ONE act who puts on the best live show -- and if you don't see your choice listed, feel free to type it in below. The results will be featured in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone."

I believe the question of who puts on the greatest "live show" is not exactly the same question as who is the greatest "live band". When I think "show", I think "showmanship". When I think "band", I think "musicianship". Both of which will appeal to different people on different levels. Prince, in my opinion, offers the best overall balance of showmanship and musicianship. But, for instance, Michael Jackson may put on a great show, but it's hard to say that he has the best "live band". And I think when you try to mix the two together the way Rolling Stone is doing, then I think you're going to get very mixed results for a lot of different reasons.

There in lies the rub.

A group like Weezer. I like their music, but their live show is nothing but them playing their songs with a little chit chat in the middle. They shouldnt even be on the list. Prince, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Rush...etc. all have great live shows. Great jam sessions. Great lighting and effects. Great solos. Great everything. That is a great live band, live show, live act. live whatever.

I totally agree with futureshock. There is a difference between an artist who has the greatest band and an artist who puts on the greatest live show. Michael Jackson and Madonna put on incredible live shows but i wouldn't say they have the best live bands. Prince on the other hand has both. His band can hold their own with any of the bands out here now and the show is alway entertaining. He definitely gets my vote.
