A while ago, Prince mentioned Tracy Bonham on his Freedom News article entitled "The Bigger Picture" as an artist caught up in label woes (along with Joan Osborne).



Tracy has her own website (http://www.tracybonham.com) where she actually answers questions from fans. I told her about the mention and she was "floored" that he actually knew who she was!

For those of you who like good ol' rock'n'roll sung by a female with a very cutting edge, PLEASE try out Tracy Bonham - I have all her CDs now and can say she is incredible. She did the song "Mother Mother" that you may have heard on the radio a few years ago, but then had label trouble and finally released her second full-length CD this year. Now her record company isn't really supporting her (sound familiar?) and she had to cancel her tour after 4 months due to lack of funds. I recommend both "The Burdens of Being Upright" (her first CD) and also "Down Here", her latest (slightly more mellow than the first).

Tracy, I discovered you only late last year when I picked up "The Burdens of Being Upright" and it quickly became one of my favorite CDs of all-time. (Of course I had heard "Mother, Mother" a few years earlier and loved it but at that time never bought a full-length CD on the basis of one song).



I just picked up "The Liverpool Sessions" and I love it. I have "Down There" on order and am expecting to receive it in a few days. This is so cool that you actually answer the fans comments/questions! Here are some of mine (though some are rhetorical):



1. I wonder if record companies know that there are people out there like me who want to hear a SECOND song/single from a CD before they will buy the entire CD? I guess now with the Internet making samples available it's less of an issue, but I still think it's important for them not to give up on a CD by not releasing a second single to radio stations.



2. Were you aware that Prince mentioned you on his official website along with Joan Osborne as "artists lost in the mergers"?



3. Sounds like your tour is ending but we'd love to see you here in LA!

Prince!!!!!????? Are you shitting me?? Wow. I'm going to his web site. To actually think that Prince may know who I am???? Weird. Anyway. Second single..I wish. You are right..I think most people need to hear more than one song before they go out to but a record. I definitely do. However..if a record company doesn't believe that there is a chance of having a hit now days..they don't waste their energy or money. I know I know. It's ridiculous. They can create a hit. But now days they want it easy. They want to put a song out and have it react immediately! Otherwise they jump ship. Who cares. I'm glad you found me regardless. Thanks. Love, Tracy b
