Performance report on Neil Finn with Wendy & Lisa

On Saturday night as part of the Olympic Celebrations in Sydney Neil Finn (lead singer of now defunct Crowded House)played an outdoor show to over 100,000 people. In his band he had ex-Revolution members Wendy and Lisa. Interestingly Wendy played bass and Jim Magini from Australian band Midnight Oil played rhythm guitar. Still her stage presence was right out of Purple Rain, leaning back and strumming hard, always watching Neil for cues as she did with Prince. Wendy looked great and unlike that photo from the Celebration of Bobby Z, Matt Fink and Brown Mark she still looked the same except for short, cropped hair and her rock star leathers. Lisa too looked really well and much thinner than her days with Prince. The set musically didn't feature any solo work by the two but there were some really classy keyboard and piano touches by Lisa. It was great to see them on stage and be reminded of what great musicians they both are.

I caught up with them backstage and we talked about music and on the subject of Prince they spoke about the Parade album and how much they both loved it. They felt their work with Prince around that time was the best they all did together and Wendy in particular raved about Parade. The girls are now doing session and soundtrack work and living in "Hollyrock". It was great to meet them and discover thhat they are extremely nice people. Life can be so nice.
