Prince said something like, "Once you step away from the machine (Standard Major Label Deals,) you won't have a hit."

It's a lot harder to reach people worldwide without going through Major Label owned Distribution and Radio.

I think that Prince's move towards Independence has more to do with his supposed "fall," than his musical work. I doubt he regrets being in control of his work and business, especially at the level that he's at.

The record went to #2 and then fell off the charts. When I went to the store to purchase the CD I did not see any posters or advertisements in the record store. There were no store displays. I use to work for a record chain and I know what goes into a marketing campaign at the retail level. Not much went into marketing this record. In addtion, the videos for the Symbol cd came out long after the CD had fallen off the charts. Once Prince change his name to a symbol WB was over him and he was over WB.

The racist ass in the industry can be anyone black or white that stereotypes artist.

An example an old ass like Rod is worth signing to a new deal because he is a old rocker and has a core audience that will keep buying his music. Until this recent cd Rod could not give his CD's away so were was that core audience.

A black guy like Prince is just a 40 plus musician and nobody is interested in that anymore. Don't all black people like rap and seeing a bunch of guys running around with their pants hanging off there asses. Nobody cares about black music anyway.
